Enneagram Type 4 Strengths, Talents and Skills: How Enneagram Type Four Excels

Everyone has their own strengths and weaknesses, and often those things which come natural to us can be attributed to our personality types. While everyone is capable of growing and learning to develop their skills, there are certain things which are likely to come naturally. Understanding where these strengths come from can also help to figure out the careers and hobbies which you will be most drawn to. While learning to strengthen our weaknesses is truly important, it is also important to understand where we will be happiest because of our natural skills and talents.

Each enneagram type has their own set of natural strengths, talents and skills, and so it is important to dig deeper into understanding this part of them. Knowing where you will excel can really help to give you confidence and figure out the areas of your life which you can improve and find comfort in. These strengths can help to figure out an ideal career, but they can also be helpful in other areas. When it comes to relationships it can also benefit to know your own strengths as a means of connecting to people and avoiding falling into your weaker points which can be harmful in some situations. Understanding these strengths can really help be a guide to figuring out the best path to take in so many areas of our lives.

Enneagram Type 4 Traits

The type 4 personality tends to see themselves as different from others, wanting to develop a strong sense of identity. The idea of being normal or just like everyone else, is often seen as a bad thing to them. They want to stand apart, and can become self-conscious about this desire. They can be fearful of vulnerability, since they don’t want to be judged or seen as ordinary by others. Fours care about self-expression and being able to find beautiful ways to show the world who they are and what makes them unique. They can often struggle with the idea that no one can ever truly understand them, always feeling far too different or strange to be loved the way they want to be. This causes them to distance themselves from people at times, especially when they are feeling a constant disconnect from the world around them. While there are certain aspects which can cause them to be unhealthy, the healthy four is actually great at personal self-awareness. They can see their strengths and flaws, but this helps them to work on those problem areas and not feel so alienated because of it.

Enneagram Type 4 Strengths

Fours have a deep understanding and connection to their own inner emotions. This helps them to reflect and work on recognizing their own mistakes, as well as their own strengths. They are capable of seeing where they could improve, and can see what they truly need in order to be happy in their environment. They make time to connect with their inner feelings, instead of neglecting themselves and what they truly need. For many people actually taking time to understand their own emotions is a challenge and leaves them struggling to know what they really want. For the type 4 individual this is something which comes naturally for them, and is definitely a strength which helps them to know themselves much better. It helps them know where they need to grow and how they can improve in so many ways. It also gives them a clear sense of what their expectations are with other people. Being so aware of what they want and what their own emotions are, helps them to always be their authentic selves. They don’t like straying from what they believe in and care about being true to who they are. Having this clear sense of identity is something which is important to the type 4 person, and is a strength when it comes to standing out from others and knowing who they are.

They are also rather creative people, this comes from having a strong inner world. They are good at coming up with new ideas and can see things in ways that others won’t. Having this unique view on the world around them makes them naturally creative and often very artistic people. Their imaginations are vivid and capable of seeing so many different angles and ideas.

The type 4 individual is often compassionate towards others, and this comes from being so connected to their own feelings. Since their inner emotions matter to them, they recognize how important being patient with others is as well. They don’t want to cause people pain and do their best to be good listeners to the ones they love. This comes from that understanding of their own feelings, and a desire to give other people the space to focus on themselves as well.

How They Can Improve

While they are understanding and sensitive people, sometimes they can become withdrawn because of this. They can have times of being reclusive and moody towards others, struggling to really work through some overwhelming emotions. This is certainly something which can be improved, especially by trusting in the people closest to them. Needing time alone to brood can simply be part of who the type 4 person is, but spending too much time doing this can cause them to disconnect from the world around them. Finding that balance is truly vital for the type 4 individual, and helps them feel more at ease with themselves. Finding ways to trust in the people they love and turn to them when they are feeling emotionally overwhelmed, can help them to remain connected and not become so distant. They have strong inner emotions but they do best when they don’t allow those feelings to pull them down for too long. Allowing themselves to experience the feelings but find ways to remain connected, can help them feel less like they need to completely distance themselves from others.
