Here’s How People Misunderstand Your Intentions, Based on Your Personality Type

While everyone has their flaws, sometimes people’s actions can be misunderstood. Here is how people might misunderstand your intentions, based on your personality type.

INFJ

INFJs are strongly intuitive people, which can easily be misunderstood by others. Their ability to pick up on cues and figure out the right path for people, can cause them to appear a bit out there to others. INFJs can be somewhat internal and reserved people, who have a hard time completely opening up. While they are somewhat hard to read, they work hard to take care of their loved ones and try and help them make good decisions. This can easily be misunderstood as being controlling or manipulative, which is definitely not the intention of the INFJ.

ENFJ

ENFJs can be seen as extremely nosey people, who are always trying to tell their loved ones what to do. This is a major misunderstanding of their intentions, since the ENFJ is often just trying to help others. They are intuitive people who can often predict future outcomes, and they only want to find ways to improve the lives of those closest to them. ENFJs are always trying to help the people they love, and care deeply about their feelings.

INFP

INFPs are often led by their emotions, and are deeply connected to their feelings. This can cause people to think the INFP is overly sensitive and self-absorbed. This is definitely a misunderstanding, since the INFP uses their own emotional awareness to understand others. They are caring people, they simply understand their own feelings very well and will use them to connect with people. INFPs can often be supportive of others very easily because of their emotional awareness, and will want to be sensitive to their feelings without having to constantly give advice.

ENFP

ENFPs desire to experience new things based on what feels right for them, can definitely be misunderstood by others. Sometimes the ENFP can appear a bit manipulative and demanding, since they can become caught up in their own thoughts. This is not the intention of the ENFP, since they actually care deeply about making others happy. They simply have such intense inner minds, which are difficult for others to keep up with. Their minds are often thinking about the people they love as well, and might even make them insecure about what those people think of them.

INTJ

INTJs are logical people who believe in focusing on finding the truth. They can often be misunderstood by people as harsh and uncaring, when they are simply trying to be accurate. INTJs aren’t insensitive people, they actually care deeply about their loved ones. They just aren’t expressive when it comes to their emotions and will find other ways of supporting people, one of those ways is by trying to help them improve their lives.

ENTJ

ENTJs can be seen as harsh and controlling people, but this is only by those who don’t truly understand them. While ENTJs do try to control most situations, it comes from the fact that they want to make sure everything continues running smoothly. They want their loved ones to be provided for and happy, which in their eyes means they need to be responsible and take control for a lot of things. The intentions of the ENTJ are usually to ensure things are taken care of in a practical sense.

INTP

INTPs are sometimes viewed as cold and insensitive people, but this is definitely a misunderstanding. INTPs are actually caring people, they just don’t express this in an emotional way. For INTPs it is important to be honest and accurate, which is why it is much more meaningful when they express emotions towards others. They are not cold people at all, they just keep their feelings very personal, and struggle to express them outwardly. INTPs intentions are often for the sake of knowledge and to ensure that their loved ones are truly aware.

ENTP

ENTPs can often be difficult for people to understand, since they jump from one thing to the next rather quickly. This idea makes some people believe that ENTPs are difficult to trust in relationships, but this isn’t true at all. Deep down ENTPs are often romantics, with a desire to find someone who can truly understand and appreciate them. They simply want to experience new things in life, for the sake of knowledge and understanding. They often make a lot of jokes, but ENTPs are capable of appreciating the important things in life.

ISTJ

ISTJs can often be misunderstood by others, and seen as cold and possibly uptight. In truth ISTJs are almost always focusing on caring for their loved ones, they just do this in a more practical way. They aren’t focused on emotions as much as making sure everyone is properly cared for. ISTJs will spend more time working hard so that they know their loved ones will be truly provided for. This comes from truly good intentions, and is a big reason why ISTJs are actually very caring people.

ESTJ

ESTJs are often misunderstood, since people see them as harsh and controlling. They aren’t uncaring people at all, and often truly want their loved ones to be happy. They aren’t good with emotions, which is why the ESTJ will work on caring for the practical needs of others. They can be seen as controlling but their intentions are often to make sure their loved ones are taken care of without them having to face too many struggles in life.

ISFJ

ISFJs are caring people but they can sometimes be seen as intruding. They simply want to care for their loved ones and make sure they are happy. People can sometimes see the ISFJ as uptight, but they really aren’t this way deep down. ISFJs just don’t want to make mistakes because that means it could negatively affect the people they love.

ESFJ

ESFJs can often have their intentions misunderstood, especially their friendliness. ESFJs enjoy connecting with people and try to be kind, which can be seen as being flirtatious when that is not at all their intentions. ESFJs can also be seen as manipulative when they are trying hard not to upset someone, their intentions are truly just to avoid seeing people hurt. They truly dislike their loved ones in pain and want to avoid this at all costs.

ISTP

ISTPs can be viewed as cold and aloof people, but this is definitely a misunderstanding. They are actually very caring when it comes to the people close to them, and will often be seen jumping into to defend others when they need it the most. ISTPs simply are focused internally, and need plenty of alone time to feel like themselves. They have so many thoughts running through their minds at once, which makes them seem more aloof than they actually are.

ESTP

ESTPs can bounce from one thing to the next rather quickly and enjoy experiencing life in their moment. Their sense of adventure can sometimes cause people to believe they are distant and aloof people. While ESTPs do enjoy experiencing new things, they actually care deeply for their loved ones. Their intentions are simply to follow what feels right for them, without being held back by fears and doubts. ESTPs actually do think about their loved ones often, and want to feel close to them.

ISFP

ISFPs are sensitive people, who can sometimes be seen as shy and flighty. These are definitely misunderstandings, especially when people get to know them deeper. ISFPs are actually rather social and somewhat goofy when they are around people they trust completely. They aren’t flighty either, they simply enjoy being able to experience life in the moment without being held back by feelings of doubt. ISFPs are led by their heart, because they believe in doing what is right and following their morals.

ESFP

ESFPs can sometimes be seen as nosey by others, especially when they are invading their loved ones boundaries. ESFPs simply want to feel connected to the people around them, and dislike being ignored. This doesn’t come from a place of being controlling, it is truly because they want to feel close to others. ESFPs are friendly and caring people, who want to draw near to the ones they love and dislike feeling separated from them.
