INFJ Guide to Happiness: How to Find Joy as an INFJ

Most people seem to be searching for happiness, whether it is on a larger scale or in small meaningful ways. Finding a sense of joy in life can be challenging for most people, especially when they don’t necessarily feel understood by the outside world. While the majority of people are often searching for ways to make themselves happy and find a sense of joy in their lives, this can be something which they struggle with if they don’t figure out the keys to what makes them feel fulfilled. Sometimes knowing one’s personality type can aid in this search for joy, and knowing the specific needs and desires which will make someone feel like they are being valued and rewarded in their daily lives.

INFJs can be complex people, who can often seem to contradict themselves in unexpected ways. People don’t always know what to expect from the INFJ and this can cause them to feel misunderstood. They are one of the rarest personality types, and being uncommon comes with plenty of struggles and difficulties. This can cause the INFJ to feel distanced from society and other people at times, and so they don’t always find it easy to uncover the things which will make them truly happy. The more they dive into understanding themselves and forget about what other people expect from them, the closer they can get to figuring out what will bring them a sense of peace and joy in life.

Alone Time

Of course time to themselves is vital for the INFJ to be happy, mostly because without it they are emotionally exhausted. They need this time for introspection and reflection, but also just to relax and recharge. It is important that they demand this time for themselves, without allowing others to feel guilty about it. It is also important for the INFJ to take this time to reflect on themselves and the things they want or need from life. Without taking the appropriate time to really sift through their own inner desires, the INFJ can become lost in what other people want from them. Sometimes journaling or just finding a creative outlet during this alone time can be beneficial for the INFJ. Just being able to see their own words on paper and work through them can help the INFJ gain a better understanding of themselves. Without this time just for themselves they become exhausted in every way possible, but they also become disconnected from the things which matter to them.

Soul Connections

INFJs crave connections but what they crave is something which goes beyond the surface or the shallow. They want to find people who make them feel understood and appreciated, but in reality they only need one person to really fill this role. They are happy having a best friend they can connect with and share everything with, as this gives them a sense of meaning and connection in their lives. INFJs do care about people and enjoy making friends, but they truly desire to feel close to people in a truly deep and meaningful way. Having connections which spark their soul and make them feel like they have something to hold on to, gives the INFJ a sense of joy everyday. Just being able to think about that person and know what they have together, is definitely going to bring a sense of peace and happiness to the life of the INFJ. It might not be the only answer or way for them to find joy, but it is certainly important to them.

Remove Personal Guilt

Something that the INFJ often struggles with in life is dealing with a sense of guilt over their actions. They can become so focused on caring for others that they start to neglect their own needs. Anytime the INFJ pays attention to themselves or reaches for something “selfish” they can feel guilty over this. This is certainly something which can suck the happiness out of their lives, since they are constantly searching for ways to please everyone else and never taking time for their own needs. Neglecting their inner desires is not going to bring the INFJ joy in the way they might think, instead it leaves them feeling stagnant and even trapped. They can start to resent themselves and others without realizing why, which is why taking time for themselves is vital. For the INFJ to really find happiness they need to work on this sense of inner guilt and start to focus on how to push past these barriers.

Trusting Themselves

INFJs are highly intuitive people but it isn’t always easy to trust and rely on this part of themselves. In order to make the right choices and follow a path which is best for them, the INFJ needs to trust in themselves. Learning to be happy within their own personal space and understand themselves better, is definitely going to help the INFJ feel stronger and happier with who they are. They need to learn to trust in their own knowledge and understanding, rather than allowing others to make them feel guilty because of this. They have an ability to sense when their choices are pulling them where they want to be, but can sometimes ignore this in hopes of doing what others want or expect. Trusting in themselves and strengthening their own intuition, can be a great way for the INFJ to learn how to feel at ease with themselves.

Meaning

Of course INFJs desire a sense of meaning and purpose in their lives, but this is a rather broad statement to make. INFJs can find meaning in so many places, whether this be in their friendships, family or in their career. So long as they are doing something which makes them feel connected and they can recognize how they are making a difference, this can be truly meaningful for the INFJ. The key is in recognizing this meaning, and realizing that they are actually doing an amazing job at making a difference for the lives of others.
