The Enneagram 514 tritype includes characteristics from Type 5 (The Investigator), Type 1 (The Reformer), and Type 4 (The Individualist). Here’s a description of each of these types:

  • Type 5: The Investigator – Being the central type in this tritype, these individuals display traits such as curiosity, perceptive abilities, innovativeness, and often tend towards isolation. Their primary objective is to develop competence and have a clear understanding of the world around them.
  • Type 1: The Reformer – This type contributes to the tritype’s system of strong values, ethical beliefs, sense of right and wrong, and a drive for self-improvement.
  • Type 4: The Individualist – These individuals are introspective, sensitive, reserved, and expressive. Their sense of uniqueness and individuality guide them. They often have a longing to understand their identity and desire to make a remarkable, lasting impact on the world.

The combination of these types in a 514 tritype results in individuals who are intellectually focused (5), have a deep commitment to ethics and principles (1), and seek to understand their unique identity (4). They can be characterized as introspective, innovative, ethical, and driven by a desire to be unique and understand their emotions deeply.

At their best, these individuals are highly creative and principled, using their intellectual capabilities to innovate and reform. They are self-aware, often introspective, driven to understand both the world and their unique place within it.

On the other hand, at their worst, they can be overly introverted and isolated, emotionally volatile, and highly critical of themselves and others. They may feel misunderstood or struggle with feeling out of place or unsatisfied due to their high standards for themselves and the world around them. It is important for a 514 to learn to balance their drive for understanding and individuality with the capacity to accept themselves as they are.
