ENFP Guide to Happiness: How to Find Joy as an ENFP

Most people seem to be searching for happiness, whether it is on a larger scale or in small meaningful ways. Finding a sense of joy in life can be challenging for most people, especially when they don’t necessarily feel understood by the outside world. While the majority of people are often searching for ways to make themselves happy and find a sense of joy in their lives, this can be something which they struggle with if they don’t figure out the keys to what makes them feel fulfilled. Sometimes knowing one’s personality type can aid in this search for joy, and knowing the specific needs and desires which will make someone feel like they are being valued and rewarded in their daily lives.

For the ENFP personality it can be hard to really figure out and analyze how they view happiness. They might become hung up on the word itself, since they do have analytical minds. Instead they might prefer searching for contentment or joy in their lives, especially as they mature and think about what it means to be truly happy and how unrealistic that is as a constant. ENFPs are often viewed as the happiest people, seen as bubbly and always eager to take on something new. While they might appear this way on the outside, that doesn’t mean the ENFP is just naturally happy all of the time. They struggle to find things which make them sincerely happy, just like everyone else does. For the ENFP it can actually be harder to find this at times, since they don’t want others to really see them as unhappy people.

Serving a Purpose

For the ENFP one of the most important things is feeling like they are serving a real purpose in life. When the ENFP doesn’t feel like they are doing something which makes a difference or affects the world in a positive way, they can feel a bit lost. They feel immense joy over knowing they are doing something of value and actually helping others. This is something which they can achieve through their career, or even just outside of work on their own time. For the ENFP to really feel connected to the world and their true selves, they need a sense of purpose and meaning. Knowing that what they are doing is helping and seeing it make a real difference is something which is going to bring the ENFP joy. Their personal actions mean a lot to them, and they care about being someone who can do the right thing even when it is hard. ENFPs have strong inner morals and beliefs, and care about those around them. Being someone who cares so deeply makes it hard for them to see people struggling and not want to find a way to really make a difference. Even if what they do is on a smaller scale, the ENFP will be happiest learning to appreciate their own actions and their ability to help make a change.

Trusting Themselves

Trusting in themselves and their own instincts is definitely important for the ENFP. They need to learn to rely on themselves and become confident in their own abilities. The more they seek out their own strengths and trust in them, the happier they will be. Learning how to speak up when they know something is wrong, is going to make the ENFP happier and more comfortable with themselves. They might not want to shake things up or disturb the peace around them, but they also feel a strong desire to right any wrongs they witness. For the ENFP this can be an ongoing struggle and something they definitely need to learn how to process. When they hesitate to be honest with others about what they believe it only makes the ENFP feel less like themselves. They will feel stifled and like they have failed in some way, and so speaking out when they feel something is deeply wrong is actually important to the ENFPs happiness.

The more the ENFP learns to understand themselves and their own strengths, the more content they will be. When they uncover the things which make them capable and confident, it gives the ENFP a sense of joy within themselves. They might struggle with this as they mature, since ENFPs are often good at so many different things. They can feel like they haven’t quite found their true strengths and skills, and don’t feel good enough because they haven’t mastered something. But there are certainly things which the ENFP will excel at, they just need to take the time to dive into their own passions and figure out what makes them feel excited.

Having True Connections

Making real and lasting connections is something which means a lot to the ENFP. They need to have people around them who they feel a deep and meaningful bond with. Just having shallow friendships won’t fulfill or reward them, as ENFPs need to feel a sincere and deep closeness. They need to feel like they have people around them who understand who they are and appreciate them all the same. ENFPs don’t want their loved ones to only see their positive side, instead they want them to be comfortable with their darker side as well. They want to feel like the people around them see who they are and love them for all of their qualities. If they have this type of connection it means the world to the ENFP, and brings them a sense of joy.

Feeling Inspired

ENFPs don’t like stagnancy in their lives and will become unhappy if they live based on some sort of schedule or habits. They need to have new challenges in order to keep their minds busy and actively seeking out experiences. They have such rich inner worlds, and their minds are constantly running through new ideas. Without having things to challenge them the ENFP becomes unhappy and often feels trapped. They do best in careers which give them creative freedoms and constantly provide them with new and inspiring challenges.
