ENFJ Auxiliary Function: Understanding the ENFJs Secondary Introverted Intuition (Ni)

When searching for a deeper understanding of the personality types, it is important to understand each one of their functions. While we often focus on the dominant and even inferior functions, knowing the auxiliary and tertiary ones are also vital. It is not just about knowing what functions each type possesses but rather how these functions behave within the stack. When a function is dominant it will present differently than when it is auxiliary, and so understanding this is truly important if you want to understand each personality type. Knowing each function on it’s own doesn’t really give you a true comprehension of how the personality type is going to utilize that function. Instead you need to learn more about the placement of each function and how it corresponds with each personality type.

ENFJs are outgoing and compassionate people, often striving to help others and make a positive difference in their lives. They can also be very competitive people, wanting to be the best at everything they do in order to impress those around them. Their dominant function is certainly the one which stands out the most with the ENFJ, since this is their extraverted feelings. While their dominant function might be important, without their auxiliary function this would become out of control and wouldn’t have a clear direction. Many forget that the ENFJ is actually highly intuitive and that their introverted intuition is an important part of how they process and respond to the world around them. This Ni is what helps the ENFJ set their goals and gives them deeper insight into the people they care about as well. This is why knowing the functions and their placement is so vital, since their position in someone’s function stack will affect them in different ways. People are far more complex than just their personality type, but there are plenty of things to uncover and ways to understand someone better by knowing these details.

How Ni Works

Ni can be a function which confuses many, since so much of what it does happens through the users subconscious. They cannot always explain where they get this information or their final conclusions, even though these predictions are so often eerily accurate. This can cause people to assume it has some sort of magical or mystical quality to it, seeing the Ni doms as being psychic. People label them as these types of things, simply because the users (INFJ/INTJ) can make predictions about the future and assess people and situations so naturally. There are perfectly logical explanations to why Ni works the way it does, it is simply hard for the users to outwardly explain this to others. Introverted intuition (Ni) is a function which catalogs information and facts over time, and filters this inwardly to help the user make predictions about the future. It is combined with their other functions in order to gather accurate information and process the details more accurately. The Ni dominant user will gather large amounts of information from the outside world, their inner minds constantly processing this in hopes of picking out the pieces which are most useful to them. Seeing how things have occured in the past and the present, helps them to internally analyze the most likely outcome in the future. Once their minds work through the problems and uncover a solution it will come to them like a sudden flash of genius. They might not be able to fully explain these predictions, since it is filtered in a subconscious way.

Auxiliary Ni in ENFJs

For the ENFJ their Ni really helps to aid their dominant Fe when it comes to understanding and connecting with others. Their introverted intuition will pick up subconscious data from around them, and this helps them make predictions about what will happen in the future. This can often be connected to their own goals and path, but definitely plays a strong role in understanding their loved ones and the people around them. It aids the dominant Fe in reading people and their personal needs and emotions. The ENFJ can often sense when something is wrong, and their Ni collects this data and figures out the best way to help. This helps the ENFJ to conceptualize the best path to take in order to take care of the people they love the most. They are very focused on building the future they want, and being someone who can live up to their own high expectations. They set these goals as a means of making others happy and proud of them, and their Ni is what gives the ENFJ the insight in order to take charge and get things done the way they need to.

The combination of Fe-Ni is part of what makes the ENFJ amazing at reading others before they get much information from them at all. This can be labelled as them being psychic, when in reality they are collecting data in a subconscious way so that they can leap to the final conclusions rather quickly. ENFJs have a stronger understanding of people and can often convince others of things with a sense of ease and comfort. They know how to debate a subject and smooth things over so that people understand the direction they need to follow. This combination of functions is often very useful for the ENFJ, especially when it comes to work environments. It is natural for them to ease the minds of others, and they can quickly anticipate what the needs of those people are. Being someone who can figure out what others want and how to get it for them, makes it easy for the ENFJ to develop excellent business connections and even a closeness with their superiors. They are good at convincing others of what needs to be done, since they have such a strong understanding of the emotions and internal needs of other people without having to try all that hard in order to do so.
