Are You Good At Reading Between the Lines, Based on Your Personality Type

Some people are naturally good at reading between the lines, while others are more interested in what is right in front of them. Having a skill that allows you to dig a little deeper and see things that aren’t visible to the naked eye, can be both a blessing and a curse. Sometimes this ability can cause people to stress more about certain things, but it also helps them recognize information that others miss. Here is how good you are at reading between the lines, based on your personality type.

INFJ

INFJs are often good at reading between the lines, but not necessarily in a conscious manner. They have powerful intuitive abilities which help them to pick up on things that most people would not recognize. INFJs can often read between the lines without a conscious effort, and these details will present themselves. INFJs aren’t surface people, and so they like to dig a little bit deeper in order to really understand something. They realize that what is presented to them isn’t necessarily all of the information, and so they need to take a step back and read between the lines a bit.

ENFJ

ENFJs are definitely good at reading between the lines, and don’t just take things at face value. They believe in digging a little deeper and understanding the unsaid things. ENFJs don’t usually just listen to the obvious, and instead they spend time analyzing and learning more. They want to be able to uncover the secrets and depth of something, since they realize there is always a bit more to it than what lies on the surface. ENFJs are also good at reading between the lines with what people say, since they can read what they aren’t saying by their tone and behavior.

INFP

INFPs definitely are good at reading between the lines, but can sometimes be over-analytical with some things. They can overthink certain information and want to dive deep into the details of what it could mean. INFPs are not surface people, and so they always look deeper into what someone says or does. They aren’t interested in just looking at things on the surface, they actually enjoy reading between the lines. They are good at picking up on metaphors and underlying meanings, and actually enjoy being able to do this.

ENFP

ENFPs definitely prefer to read between the lines and don’t like just picking up on what is on the surface. ENFPs are digging deeper and actually spend time thinking things over. For them reading between the lines comes naturally, as their minds will run through different patterns and details of the situation and information that is presented to them. Their minds can be a truly active place, filled with so many different thoughts and ideas, that they do enjoy reading between the lines.

INTJ

INTJs are great at reading between the lines, it is often how they operate. They don’t just take things at face value, instead they enjoy digging deeper. For the INTJ it is rewarding to spend their time and energy taking things apart and learning more about them. They don’t just pay attention to the obvious answer, instead they want to read between the lines and see what else might be there. INTJs are good at this, and it often comes naturally for them. It is actually more unnatural for the INTJ to just pay attention to the shallow end of things.

ENTJ

ENTJs definitely know how to read between the lines and are often more focused on doing so. They don’t believe in just accepting what things are on the surface, instead they want to dig a little deeper. ENTJs value being able to dive in and uncovering the information that requires a little more analysis. ENTJs are analytical people and they enjoy taking time to uncover the truth, instead of just accepting what lies on the surface. Reading between the lines is definitely something ENTJs are good at.

INTP

INTPs are great at reading between the lines, since they enjoy digging deeper. They spend most of their time analyzing information and they like being able to take things apart. For INTPs analyzing is something that comes naturally, and is certainly rewarding for them. They can sometimes overanalyze information though, and their ability to read between the lines can turn into slight paranoia. INTPs analyze things until they have completely dissected what is in front of them, and this can be both a blessing and a curse.

ENTP

ENTPs definitely are good at reading between lines, and they value being able to do this. They don’t just take things at face value, instead they believe in looking deeper. It often comes naturally for the ENTP to read between the lines, instead of just accepting things for how they are. They value being able to explore things and analyze the information in order to learn what they can. ENTPs value analysis and believe in doing what they can to uncover the truth of situation.

ISTJ

ISTJs don’t like having to read between the lines, since this feels like an inefficient waste of time. They prefer things that are presented clearly and honesty, without needing to be overanalyzed. For the ISTJ having to dig deeper into something and read between the lines can be exhausting. Oftentimes this means having to approach a situation from a more emotional point of view, and this is definitely not something they enjoy doing. For the ISTJ it is better to not have to waste their time and energy on analyzing things in this way.

ESTJ

ESTJs don’t really like reading between the lines, instead they prefer things to be upfront. When something requires them to dig deeper it can be a bit draining for them. They value being able to have information presented to them in a more obvious manner. Having to dig deeper into things can sometimes feel like a waste of their time and energy. Metaphors and theories are of little interest to the ESTJ who is much more interested in facts and honesty.

ISFJ

ISFJs aren’t usually fans of reading between the lines, unless it involves someone they love. When it comes to facts and information they prefer to be able to take it at face value. When it comes to their loved ones, ISFJs often realize that it can require more effort. They don’t just listen to what they say to them, instead they read between the lines and pay attention to their tone and behaviors. ISFJs care about their loved ones and are good at reading their emotions, and reading between the lines as far as they are concerned.

ESFJ

ESFJs aren’t often fans of having to read between the lines, at least not where more practical things are concerned. They want to focus on getting things done and being as efficient as possible, and having to dig deeper can get in the way of this sometimes. ESFJs do however read between the lines when it comes to their loved ones. They don’t just hear their words, they also listen to their tone and more subtle behaviors. ESFJs care about their loved ones and are good at reading between the lines when it comes to them.

ISTP

ISTPs are capable of reading between the lines with some things, at least where it is necessary. Most of the time they prefer to focus on facts that are presented in a more upfront manner. ISTPs are capable of analyzing and digging a little deeper, but this isn’t something they always want to do. For the ISTP it is more rewarding to research information that is proven and to the point. ISTPs aren’t the best at reading between the lines when it comes to their loved ones, and so they prefer them to be upfront and honest.

ESTP

ESTPs are capable of reading between the lines when they need to, but most of the time this type of analysis can be a bit overbearing for them. ESTPs sometimes try to read between the lines but when this happens they are often reaching a more paranoid level. They care about their loved ones but sometimes they can pick up on subtleties without being able to really get to the core of the situation. ESTPs prefer facts and things that are presented in a more obvious manner.

ISFP

ISFPs don’t like reading between the lines, instead they prefer things are right in front of them. Having to overanalyze and dig deeper can be a bit draining for the ISFP. They do enjoy learning and uncovering information about their loved ones, but this isn’t about reading between the lines. It is more about taking time to understand them, not about having to read between the lines and uncover things this person doesn’t want discovered.

ESFP

ESFPs aren’t usually fans of reading between the lines, instead they prefer to look at what is in front of them. They want things to be upfront and obvious, and enjoy taking things in from the world around them. ESFPs live in the moment and enjoy approaching things from a fresh point of view. Instead of having to read between the lines the ESFP wants to just enjoy the moment and the information that is provided for them.
