Here’s How Well You Think Outside of the Box, Based on Your Personality Type

While some people prefer to follow a plan and path that they understand, others are great at thinking outside of the box. Here is how well you think outside of the box, based on your personality type.

INFJ

INFs are definitely capable of looking outside of the box, and don’t need to always follow the rules. INFJs enjoy being able look at things in different ways and don’t always want to approach life from a strict pattern. They can be somewhat organized and appropriate people, but at the same time they know how to look at things from different angles. INFJs are introspective people, who use their intuition to approach things from their own unique perspective.

ENFJ

ENFJs are definitely capable of thinking outside of the box and don’t need to constantly follow the rules. While ENFJs are capable of outside the box thinking, they do best simply following their intuition. They have strong intuitive abilities, and prefer to rely on this in order to make decisions. They do know how to approach things from different angles though, which comes from their natural ability to empathize and put themselves in other people’s shoes.

INFP

INFPs are excellent at thinking outside of the box and find this comes naturally for them. They prefer to approach things from a unique angle and hate simply following the expected path. INFPs enjoy stretching their minds and analyzing information in different ways. They actually like being able to look at things from many different angles in order to figure out which path they would like the most. INFPs have minds that are always running through so many different thoughts all at once, which certainly makes them think outside of the box.

ENFP

ENFPs definitely think outside of the box naturally, and enjoy being able to explore their options. Their ability to see things in a unique way really helps the ENFP problem solve in unexpected ways. They often see a problem from so many different angles, which really helps them find really helpful ways of fixing the issues t hand. ENFPs find it natural to think outside of the box and aren’t really fans of following the rules. They don’t need to know the previous paths taken in order to figure out which one makes them most sense for them.

INTJ

INTJs do know how to think outside of the box, but they prefer to utilize their intuition in order to get things done. They are naturally good at problem solving and often know which path makes them most sense rather quickly. INTJs don’t need to consider all of the possible options, since their minds naturally pick up on information and analyze the best course of action. INTJs are definitely capable of thinking outside of the box, but they find it more useful to follow their natural analysis and intuitive skills.

ENTJ

ENTJs can certainly think outside of the box, but they prefer to approach things from a strategic angle. They use their intuitive abilities in order to pick up information and figure out which path makes them most sense. They often know how they want to approach things, and believe it is important to follow their own plan and schedule. While ENTJs prefer to go by their own preconceived plan, they certainly can think outside of the box in order to discover different potential approaches.

INTP

INTPs are intuitive people who enjoy being able to challenge themselves and look at things from different angles. They are creative people which really helps them when it comes to out of the box thinking. They find it comes natural for them to approach things from many different angles, and don’t struggle with this at all. INTPs also believe in looking at all the possibilities and enjoy exploring these different approaches before moving forward. While some people believe in following the rules, INTPs prefer to think outside of the box and enjoy crossing those lines.

ENTP

ENTPs are natural rule breakers, which really helps them when it comes to outside of the box thinking. They want to approach things from many different angles and don’t enjoy remaining stuck in one strict path. For ENTPs it is important to analyze and consider all of the different possibilities. They are naturally creative people and their intuition helps them consider all of the different paths they could take before actually moving forward. Their ability to think outside of the box so well can really benefit the ENTP when it comes to problem solving.

ISTJ

While ISTJs are capable of approaching things from different angles, thinking too far outside of the box can be frustrating for them. They prefer proven methods that they know will be implementing correctly. Having to approach their tasks from unique angles can leave the ISTJ feeling fearful that something can possibly go wrong. They simply want to be sure that everything is done efficiently, especially since they don’t want to let others down.

ESTJ

While ESTJs are certainly capable of thinking outside of the box, they do prefer to follow the rules. For ESTJs it is important to remain as efficient as possible, and sometimes too much out of the box thinking can distract from that. They want to be sure that the methods they are implementing have been proven effective before they move forward. ESTJs simply have so much pressure on them to perform perfectly, that they want to be sure they are taking the right steps to ensure everything goes smoothly.

ISFJ

ISFJs don’t naturally prefer to think outside of the box, and enjoy following patterns that they know and understand. For ISFJs it is important to create a sense of harmony in their environment and this is something they really don’t want to risk. They have so much pressure on them to ensure the well-being of their loved ones, and constantly approaching things from unique angles can trip them up sometimes. They simply want to take care of their loved ones and are focused on ensuring everyone’s happiness.

ESFJ

Thinking outside of the box might not come naturally for ESFJs, since they focus on what is in front of them. Their main drive in life is to take care of their loved ones and ensure that everyone around them is happy. ESFJs can put a lot of pressure on themselves to provide for others, which for them means they need to remain organized and focused. If they become distracted by daydreaming or approaching things from all these different angles, it can lead to someone being disappointed in them.

ISTP

ISTPs are analytical people who enjoy being able to absorb new information. While ISTPs do enjoy using facts to approach problems, they are still capable of thinking outside of the box. For them it is more about looking at how things work in the present moment, and utilizing their critical thinking skills to find the most reasonable solution. ISTPs have unique minds which they often use to absorb many different pieces of information which they later use to solve problems.

ESTP

ESTPs often prefer to analyze and absorb information in order to solve problems. They don’t always want to approach things from outside the facts that they have in front of them, and prefer to focus on what they know in the moment. For ESTPs it can hold them back to constantly attempt to think outside of the box, so they find it more useful to simply use what they know. They can compile a lot of facts at once and remember them for a rather long time, which makes it easy for them to get things done effectively.

ISFP

ISFPs are creative people who enjoy being able to approach things from different angles. While they do enjoy thinking outside of the box, ISFPs can sometimes veer off in rather odd directions. For them it is important to go against the grain, and they don’t really enjoy having to constantly follow the rules. ISFPs are unique people who enjoy allowing their thoughts to run away with them in the present moment.

ESFP

ESFPs are very creative people which can often help them when it comes to thinking outside of the box. They don’t like following rules and often enjoy being able to push the limits. While ESFPs can certainly deviate from the norm, going too far can leave them feeling frustrated. Analytical thinking isn’t really their strongest attribute and can leave the ESFP feeling frustrated or even a bit bored with the situation.
