Enneagram Type 2 Love: How Enneagram Type Two Falls In Love

The Enneagram is a categorization of personality types based on how people perceive and respond to the world and information they gather, as well their own emotions. This describes 9 different enneagram or personality types, and each one possesses certain core beliefs which are what drives them. These beliefs drive each type and also can be limiting at times, which is why understanding them is so important. It isn’t meant to lock people into those weaknesses or limitations, instead it is meant to help them improve and find ways to maintain a sense of healthy balance in their lives. It also helps to gain a deeper understanding of what motivates the people around you, and helps to comprehend why they contradict themselves at times. Knowing the enneagram gives a clearer sense of these inner motivations and even fears.

When it comes to love and romance, understanding more about someone’s enneagram can certainly be a useful way to gauge compatibility. It can help you understand where that person is coming from and what their core values truly are. This can help uncover how to best communicate with your partner and how to find common ground. The type 2 personality is known as the helper, with a natural desire to feel wanted and needed by others.  Understanding the type 2 personality is important, but also understanding how they respond in relationships and with someone romantically, is going to give you a better idea of how to communicate.

Type 2 Values

For the type 2 personality their inner desire to feel wanted and worthy is something which drives them. They care about being important to others, and want to feel like they are good enough. They can have a hard time coping with the idea of feeling unloved, and really need to feel a connection to the people close to them. They have a strong sense of empathy towards those around them and want to always be helpful to those people. For the type 2 person their strongest goal is to be someone who is indispensable to their loved ones and workplace, wanting to always feel both needed and wanted. At their best they are someone who will do just about anything in support of the people they love, being self-sacrificing and always considerate of their needs. This can sometimes lead the type 2 individual to neglect their own needs, not realizing that they need to take time for themselves as well. While this can cause them to appear rather selfless, it can also weigh them down after a while. Being someone who only focuses on the needs and desires of others, leaves the type 2 individual feeling a bit underappreciated. This is certainly something which is important to recognize when in a romantic relationship with them.

Type 2 In Love

When the type 2 personality is in love they are considerate and very giving people. They can be rather self-sacrificing and want to go above and beyond to make their partner happy. Being someone who naturally wants to be wanted to feel worthy of those around them, they are going to take that extra mile when it comes to romantic relationships. When they are in love with someone they would do just about anything for them. They want to make their partner happy and care about being someone who is always there for them in every way they need. For the type 2 person it is vital that they feel truly important and valued in their relationship. Their romantic relationship becomes very important to them, and so they invest a lot of energy into making this person happy and making their relationship work. Two’s in love are very giving people and will often put aside their own happiness in order to be supportive and giving to their partner. They want to be seen as important to them and care about how they are perceived by their partner. For the type two personality being giving and supportive comes naturally when they are in a relationship and this certainly makes them great romantic partners in a lot of ways.

Type 2 Relationship Struggles

For the type 2 personality there are certainly many positive things they bring to a relationship, but they can experience certain struggles as well. It can be difficult for them to feel  as if they aren’t truly being appreciated for all of their efforts. The type 2 person will go above and beyond to be there for the one they love, and will want to find whatever solution they can to make them happy. They put a lot of their time and energy into caring for this special someone, and so they want to feel like their efforts actually matter. For them it can be hard when they don’t feel truly appreciated, and can make them feel drained and even cause tension in their relationship. They simply want to have someone that they care about in return and make them feel truly important to their partner. Being someone who is self-sacrificing and gives a lot to their loved ones, can become draining if they don’t feel something in return. They can start to feel overwhelmed and even find themselves being short-tempered with their loved ones. Normally they would work hard to show patience and always be kind to the person they love, but when they don’t feel appreciated this can start to really change for them.

While having a partner who is giving and self-sacrificing can feel amazing, it is important to give back in return. What the type two personality needs more than anything is to feel like they are important to their partner. They want to feel like they matter and are truly a priority in their partners life. They need to know that their efforts are recognized and that they are truly appreciated for all that they give and do.
