The Enneagram 173 tritype, often labeled as “The Optimizer,” includes a dominant type from each of the three intelligence centers within the Enneagram system: Gut (Type 1), Heart (Type 3), and Head (Type 7).

Here’s a quick summary of these Enneagram types:

  1. Type 1, also known as the Perfectionist or Reformer: This type is focused on integrity, responsible and improvement-oriented. Ones typically see the world in terms of right and wrong, and aim to be ethical and just in their actions.
  2. Type 7, also known as the Enthusiast or Visionary: This type is future-oriented, enthusiastic, and adventurous. Sevens seek richness in life through experiences and are often unconstrained, joyful, and dislike being restricted or limited.
  3. Type 3, also known as the Achiever or Performer: The dominant type for the Heart center in this tritype, threes are success-driven, adaptable, and efficient. Aimed at being successful and avoiding failure, they are often image-conscious and value their appearance of success.

The 173 tritype is likely to be achievement-oriented, ethical, and highly visionary. These individuals tend to balance their desire for success with a commitment to their principles and a zest for life’s experiences. They may have a work-hard, play-hard mentality. They could fear being seen as unsuccessful and inefficient, and at the same time, hold themselves to high moral standards.

On the downside, this tritype could tend to overwork, be overly critical of themselves and others, and evade negative feelings. They may occasionally fall into the trap of glossing over problems or keeping themselves excessively busy to avoid discomfort. They might also be prone to discontent when reality does not match their ideals. Overall, this tritype is about achieving success and fulfillment while maintaining a strong sense of right and wrong. They are usually committed, dynamic, and ethical, with a forward-moving energy.
