Self-discipline is certainly a trait to be valued, but some possess it in abundance while others seem to be lacking. Here is how important self-discipline is to you, based on your personality type.
INFJs definitely believe that self-discipline is very important, and they work hard to maintain a sense of internal control. They don’t want to be someone who cannot be depended on by others, and so they don’t like to be reckless or irresponsible. INFJs don’t believe in blaming others for their own actions, and take responsibility for the things they do. They want to be seen as someone who can control themselves, which comes naturally for them in most situations. INFJs think before they act and don’t just hump into situations without analyzing and using their sense of intuition.
ENFJs do believe that self-discipline is very important, since they are focused on caring for the needs of others. Being reckless or irresponsible can really end up hurting the people around them and that is something the ENFJ cannot accept. They definitely value people who have a sense of self-discipline and are capable of going after their goals without falling apart. This sense of internal strength is very important to ENFJs, especially since they work so hard to make sure everyone is taken of.
INFPs certainly admire people with a strong sense of self-discipline, but only to a certain extent. INFPs are very disciplined when it comes to their morals and ideals, and work hard to ensure they do the right thing. To INFPs it is possible for people to be overly disciplined and it becomes a bit draining for them. They believe that it is important to let themselves take chances and experience being a bit spontaneous at times. For INFPs people who are overly self-disciplined are too uptight and don’t actually experience life the way they should.
For ENFPs certain situations require self-discipline, but in other cases they can be a bit reckless and spontaneous. They have strong morals and believe in self-discipline when it comes to staying strong and doing what they believe is right. ENFPs are supportive towards their loved ones and can certainly control themselves when they are in a committed relationship. As far as other parts of their life ENFPs don’t want to live every moment with discipline and self-control, and believe in following their whims once in a while.

They don’t like being around people who cannot control themselves or their emotions, especially when it is an important situation. INTJs have strong wills and don’t allow their feelings or momentary whims to take control of their actions. They value individuals who have plenty of discipline and are capable of overcoming their struggles and getting things done efficiently.
ENTJs definitely believe that self-discipline is an important quality, and can become frustrated with people who do not possess it. ENTJs believe in working hard and maintaining a sense of focus in order to accomplish their goals. Without strong self-discipline the ENTJ would not be so efficient and capable of getting things done as they are. They definitely have strong values and willpower, which helps them go after anything they set their mind to. For ENTJs it is very important to possess this self-control and do be sure they don’t allow emotions to get in their way.
INTPs definitely have inner morals which they believe in following, but they are constantly exploring new ideas. They might not value self-discipline as much as some other types, since they believe it is important to keep an open mind. INTPs dislike feeling stuck in one belief, and are always searching for new things to understand and discover. Too much self-discipline can actually leave the INTP feeling stuck and a bit too stagnant for their own good.
ENTPs aren’t as interested in self-discipline as they are in exploration. For ENTPs it is more important to follow their intuition and take chances not and again. They want to be able to truly explore different possibilities in order to truly learn more about the world around them and themselves. For ENTPs self-discipline can leave them feeling stifled and like they aren’t free to make their own choices. They want to explore their whims and be spontaneous with their choices.
ISTJs definitely value self-discipline and possess it in abundance themselves For the ISTJ it is important to maintain a sense of awareness and control over their own actions. They want to be sure that they continue to have plenty of willpower, especially with the things they find most important. ISTJs are committed and hardworking people, who believe in being disciplined and not allowing their emotions to get in the way of their goals and values.
ESTJs value self-discipline very much and believe it is important to maintain control over their own actions. ESTJs have plenty of willpower and will always work hard to accomplish their goals. When they set their mind to something the ESTJ won’t allow anything to get in their way. They don’t let their emotions control them and believe it is important to maintain focus. ESTJs can become frustrated with people who have no discipline, and believe they are reckless.
ISFJs do value self-discipline, and believe it is important to maintain control in their lives. They don’t believe in simply following their whims since this can get them into trouble. ISFJs want to create a harmonious environment, and work hard to make everyone around them happy. For ISFJs this means having plenty of self-discipline in order to ensure that they get things done for their loved ones. ISFJs definitely value discipline and can become frustrated with people who have no self-control.
ESFJs do possess a strong amount of self-discipline, which helps them achieve their goals in life. When it comes to their loved ones ESFJs will go above and beyond to make them happy, which does require self-control. They need to be disciplined in their actions in order to ensure they can properly take care of the needs of others. ESFJs don’t believe in taking too many chances or risks, and want to maintain their focus on building a future for the people they love.
ISTPs value self-discipline to some extent, especially when it comes to emotional control. They don’t believe in allowing their feelings to stand in the way of their goals and desires in life. They don’t want to become someone who falls apart over their feelings, and so they definitely believe in maintaining discipline in this way. When it comes to daily life ISTPs don’t want to become overly disciplined, since this will leave them feeling stifled and feeling like they are trapped.
For ESTPs self-discipline can become boring and even exhausting after a while. They believe it is important to enjoy the moment and live their lives with a sense of passion. Instead of constantly being caught up on discipline and responsibilities, the ESTP wants to take chances and enjoy their lives. They live in the present and can be rather spontaneous when they are excited by something. While ESTPs understand that self-discipline can be important to some extent, they won’t go out of their way to maintain self-control in every situation.
ISFPs believe in experiencing life to the fullest and want to enjoy living in the present. Self-discipline isn’t something they value all that much, especially when it comes to following their emotions. ISFPs allow their hearts to be their guide, and don’t want to feel like they are doing something wrong because of this. Too much self-discipline is boring to the ISFP and keeps them from living their lives the way they were truly meant to.
ESFPs enjoy being able to experience new things and live in the present moment, so in many ways self-discipline can hold them back from this. Too much discipline can really cramp the ESFPs style and leave them feeling a bit trapped. They want to live their lives to the fullest and enjoy the moment without feeling held back. For ESFPs too much discipline is simply a way to leave them feeling completely stagnant and miserable.
