INTP Depression & Struggles: How the INTP Handles Depressed Feelings
Depression is certainly something which differs from person to person, and can depend greatly on the individual. While each person will have their own experiences and feelings on the matter, that doesn’t mean there aren’t connections between personality types. Certain types will likely find similar reasons to why they are feeling themselves becoming buried deeper in their depression, or finding ways to crawl out of it. For the INTP there are certainly specific things which can trigger their depression even worse, or even cause them to feel a sense of comfort when they find solutions.
Logic Makes It More Confusing Sometimes
When the INTP is feeling depressed they often try to find a logical answer for what is going on with them. Their logical minds can be useful in so many ways, but when it comes to emotions it can trip them up sometimes. They will find themselves feeling overwhelmed, but will want to come up with ways to understand their problem in a much more direct and factual manner. Often this isn’t the easiest of tasks, since their depression can be something which comes out of nowhere and doesn’t necessarily have clear answers or solutions.
The battle between the heart and the mind is a constant one for the INTP, and they often try hard to lean towards their logical minds. While they want to analyze the situation and figure out the facts, sometimes depression is not so simple and easy to comprehend. When they are depressed they can dive into this analytical mode, but sometimes this can make those feelings even worse when the INTP seeks to bury them in favor of logic.
How Alienation Can Make the Situation Worse
When the INTP is struggling with something they often want to be alone, and will strive to alienate themselves a bit. INTPs might feel like this will help them recharge, but in some ways it can make the situation a bit worse for them. Without finding connections to the outside world the INTP can lock themselves up in this internal bubble. There are many ways in which this bubble helps them problem solve, but in other ways it can make depression a slippery slope for them. For the INTP it is important not to completely separate themselves from others when they are depressed, even though this is likely their natural response. Instead they need to reach out to people they trust, and allow themselves to feel connected to them even in the smallest of ways. Just having some sort of connection and not completely disconnecting, is an important step for the INTP when they are feeling depressed. Sometimes it is best not to rely on those natural reactions and responses to stress, since they can be the very thing making the situation worse.
Talking to Someone is Important, but Can Be Difficult
For the INTP talking to people about their feelings is not something they find easy to do. They often bury their emotions, and even search for ways to logically explain what is going on inside of them. INTPs don’t find it easy or comfortable to express themselves, especially when it comes to those emotions. When they are experiencing feelings of depression, the INTP likely does not feel comfortable sharing this with someone else, even though that is often the best thing for them.
In order to accept what is going on most people really need to share those feelings with others. Depression is not something which can easily be faced alone, and so being around others and having people to talk to is vital. In order to actually accept their depressive state and learn ways of coming through it, the INTP needs to be able to share what is going on. They need to find someone they can talk to, especially in a professional sense. Finding someone who has a degree and can give them logic and facts along with helping them express their emotions, can actually be beneficial for the INTP. They also need to find loved ones they can open up to, even if they do this in small increments and take the process slowly.
Self-Care and Connecting with Your Body
INTPs sometimes struggle to connect with the physical world around them, and this can make proper self-care a challenge at times. Not tending to their own physical needs can be something which sends the INTP into a depressive state of mind. They find themselves never feeling all that well, and might be exhausted most of the time.Their physical well-being is sometimes neglected by the INTP, but it is important that they learn to change these habits. Connecting with their bodies and learning to pay better attention to their needs, can greatly improve the INTP state of mind.
For the INTP self-care isn’t always the easiest or most natural of things, but it is certainly important. For them to get back into a healthier state of mind, they need to take the time for themselves. INTPs often prioritize other things and find themselves burying their own physical and emotional needs for long periods of time. Learning to rearrange their habits and develop new ones, is an important step in learning proper self-care. They need to understand in a logical way how important tending to these needs really is for their own well-being.
