Here’s How Each Personality Type Reacts to Compromise
Compromise can be an important part of creating a happy and fluid bond with someone. While compromise comes natural for someone people, it can be a constant struggle for others. Here is how each personality type handles compromise.
INFJ
INFJs understand that compromise is an important part of connecting to and understanding someone. They are not so stubborn that they will lose out on a good relationship simply because they do not want to compromise. INFJs are actually good at prioritizing other people, which makes them capable of compromise. INFJs will not want to compromise their morals though, and will stand strong when it comes to the things they deem most important. They are willing to bend on most things, and are capable of putting their own feelings aside. When it comes to being a good and moral person, INFJs don’t believe in compromising.
ENFJ
ENFJs are very capable of compromise, especially for the people they love most. They often put the needs of others above their own, making compromise somewhat natural for them. ENFJs do have a stubborn side though, and refuse to compromise on certain things. If the ENFJ truly believes in something and its importance, then they won’t want to bend on that. They know what they believe is right and don’t like being forced to compromise on that. When it comes to minor things though, ENFJs are willing to bend in order to please their loved ones.
INFP
INFPs aren’t really fans of compromise, especially when it comes to their morals. They are independent people who prefer to do what they believe is honest and right. They don’t enjoy being forced to compromise on their personal beliefs and ideals, and often strand very strong with them. INFPs can have a hard time compromising, since they often know who they are and what they want. With certain smaller things the INFP will be willing to bend a little, especially if it makes someone they love happy. They value their relationships and want to maintain them, they simply don’t want to change who they are in the process.
ENFP
ENFPs have a strong sense of inner morals, and dislike being held back. This desire to explore new things can sometimes make compromise difficult for them. ENFPs don’t want to change who they are for the sake of someone else, and enjoy having the freedom to make their own choices. ENFPs are independent people who enjoy doing their own things in life. They will make compromises for someone they truly care for, especially if they realize it is important to that person. Once the ENFP understands that they need to compromise just a little in order to maintain their relationship, they will definitely put forth the effort.
INTJ
INTJs have their own morals and ideals, which they refuse to compromise. They know what they believe in, and they also spend a long time researching before they commit to anything. INTJs have a strong sense of what they want in life, and don’t want to compromise that at all. They do want to make their loved ones happy, and value their relationships deeply. The INTJ simply does not believe in compromising who they are, or what they know to be true. They believe in accuracy, and will not pretend to be wrong simply to please someone else. INTJs can struggle with compromise, but will bend on smaller things and understand that it is necessary in any relationship.
ENTJ
ENTJs definitely don’t like to compromise, especially since they know what they want. They have spent plenty of time researching and working to understand what is true and what is not. ENTJs also have their own morals and desires in life, and they can have a struggle turning away from this. They don’t want to compromise since they have spent plenty of energy figuring out what they believe in. ENTJs will bend on some smaller things in order to make their loved ones happy. They don’t want to be unreasonable, they simply have a strong awareness of facts.
INTP
INTPs understand that compromise is important in relationships, but they can sometimes struggle with this. They don’t like changing who they are, since they have spent years learning what they believe to be true. INTPs spent so much time researching and learning the truth, that they have a hard time bending once they’ve figure something out. They don’t want to compromise their choices, but will bend on small things. INTPs can be a bit stubborn, and often enjoy debating with people close to them. This struggle to compromise can be difficult in relationships, so it helps if INTPs can build good communication skills.
ENTP
ENTPs are intelligent and headstrong people, who enjoy being able to debate with others. They spend a lot of their energy researching and learning the facts, which makes it difficult for them to compromise. ENTPs often know what the truth is, and don’t to pretend for the sake of someone else. ENTPs do enjoy debating though, and will certainly change their minds if they are proven wrong. They are willing to compromise with some life choices in order to please their loved ones, and will try to work out a reasonable middle ground.
ISTJ
ISTJs are definitely capable of compromise, especially for the people they love. They are hardworking people, who believe in pushing themselves to always be better. They certainly don’t want to compromise on their morals, or what they believe is sincere. When it comes to their loved ones though, ISTJs will try to find a middle ground that makes both people happy. They are often skilled at figuring out which things they can and cannot compromise on.
ESTJ
ESTJs are hardworking and somewhat stubborn people, which can make compromise difficult for them. They want to stand strong with what they believe to be right, and don’t want to bend for the sake of someone else. ESTJs do care deeply for their loved ones, and want to be able to make them happy. Oftentimes the ESTJ realizes that they have to bend on certain things, but in many cases they believe that they know what is best for themselves and their loved ones.
ISFJ
ISFJs are caring and compassionate people, who believe in compromising for their loves ones. They don’t usually put their own needs first, and will prioritize the happiness of others. The fact that ISFJs often do not focus on their own needs, makes it natural for them to compromise. They simply want to make their loved ones happy, and will do whatever it takes to achieve this. ISFJs do have certain things they can be a stubborn with, which is usually tied to their sense of morals. Most of the time though, ISFJs are more than capable of compromising for the right people.
ESFJ
ESFJs are mainly focused on tending to the needs of others, which makes them very capable of compromise. They will often overcompensate and push themselves too far in order to make their loved ones happy. This can be difficult for ESFJs, since they can sometimes compromise things that are important to them, simply because someone asks them to. As they get older the ESFJ needs to learn to find someone who is also willing to compromise for them. They need to learn how to balance the things they are willing to compromise on, and what is truly important to them.
ISTP
ISTPs are independent people, who prefer to do their own thing in life. They can struggle with certain compromise, since they actually enjoy having a sense of freedom. They don’t want other people to force them to change who they are or what they want. ISTPs believe in standing strong when it comes to accuracy, and won’t pretend for the sake of someone else. They do realize how to compromise on certain things, especially for their relationships. In most cases ISTPs would prefer to have space to make their own choices.
ESTP
ESTPs are focused and intelligent people, but sometimes they can struggle with compromise. They want to make their loved ones happy and will try to bend in order to do so. There are certain things that the ESTP wants in life, and they will have a very hard time bending on those things. They simply don’t want to change who they are in order to make someone else love them. ESTPs believe in having the freedom to make their own choices, especially when it comes to being accurate.
ISFP
ISFPs can be somewhat stubborn people, especially when it comes to their morals. They will not compromise on their beliefs, or what to be with someone who tries to change who they are. There are certain things the ISFP will bend on, but they can be somewhat willful people. They simply believe in being themselves and want to follow their hearts. They want to make their loved ones happy, but at the same time they want to be accepted for who they are.
ESFP
ESFPs can be stubborn people, which makes it difficult for them to compromise. When the ESFP wants something in life, they dislike having someone else try to hold them back. They know what they believe in and enjoy being able to have freedom and independence. ESFPs do want to make their loved ones happy and will try to compromise when they can. In many cases though, ESFPs simply want to be themselves without feeling like they need to change for the sake of someone else.
