How Each Myers-Briggs Type Feels About Tradition
With the holidays fast approaching we thought it would be important to discuss traditions. Some people love the idea of tradition, while others might completely rebel against it. Here is how each Myers-Briggs type feels about traditions.
INFJ
INFJs often do not feel an attraction towards tradition, simply because they see it as completely arbitrary. They often see the holidays as a time of falsehood, since most people just enjoy the materialistic and shallow aspects of it. If the INFJ is around people who enjoy spending time with others and use these traditions as a way to care for others, they may feel differently. They may not be entirely against tradition, but they probably see it as a bit pointless. INFJs understand that other people value tradition, and they may feel bad stomping on that. Holidays are sometimes difficult for them though, they may find it best to retreat.
ENFJ
ENFJs enjoy being around others and often see tradition as a way to bring their loved ones together. They may have a tendency to make their own traditions, instead of following the norm. ENFJs may not favor the simple idea of tradition, but they love being around their family and friends. Holidays are often a great time to bring everyone together and spend time enjoying each others company. ENFJs will often do their best to uphold traditions that are important to their loved ones, even if they don’t care much for those traditions themselves.
INFP
INFPs often have a rather unique opinion of traditions. There are some traditions that the INFP might enjoy, things like holidays and spending time with loved ones are often nice. Simple traditions will often be romantic and enjoyable to INFPs, as long as they aren’t forced to uphold them. When they are independently allowed to enjoy these traditions, they will often like them very much. Certain traditions however, will be seen as awkward and unnecessary to an INFP. When people are being forced to partake in antiquated traditions that they do not believe in, the INFP will become rather frustrated.
ENFP
ENFPs often do not mind tradition, as long as the people around them are enjoying themselves. They simply dislike being forced to do anything and might go against a tradition that makes them feel stifled. ENFPs enjoy seeing people happy, which often causes them to enjoy holidays like Christmas and Thanksgiving. When it is made to feel like a good time, the ENFP will often enjoy themselves very much. They dislike traditions that force people into doing things they dislike, and will often go against those things very hard.
INTP
INTPs are not the most tradition minded individuals, since they often see them as pointless. INTPs enjoy being able to make their own choices in life and often favor logic over emotion. Most traditions are very connected to emotions and feelings, which might make the INTP hesitant to embrace them. If the people they love are extremely focused on tradition, the INTP will often do what they can to go along with this. They may not enjoy the experience, but they will often do what they can to make their loved ones happy.
ENTP
ENTPs are not usually drawn to tradition, and may simply hate the idea of them altogether. The fact that people are doing things because they are “supposed to” do them, will often appear ridiculous to an ENTP. Younger ENTPs may despise all traditions and will often rebel against them at any cost. As they get older many ENTPs will come to enjoy certain holidays, simply for the joy of spending time with family and enjoying delicious food together. There are certain traditions like outdated ceremonies that they will often always dislike. As long as the tradition serves a good and positive purpose, they will often be okay with it.
INTJ
INTJs often dislike traditions that are done simply for the sake of it being a tradition. They may see traditions are overly sentimental and completely pointless. In some cases INTJs are the people working to abolish certain traditions, since they simply do not see any real and logical reasoning behind their existence. There might be some traditions that INTJs see as logical and they will take the time to appreciate those in that case. INTJs may end up realizing that traditions are simply a part of society and will come to accept them and going along in certain cases. If they truly believe that those traditions are ridiculous and even offensive, then they will refuse to partake in them.
ENTJ
ENTJs will often favor traditions that seem to cause a positive outcome. If there is a traditional that seems to result in people respecting someone and doing what they are meant to, then they will favor that tradition. Above everything else ENTJs favor logic and efficiency. They may not enjoy traditions for the more sentimental reasons, but often respect that living in a society often means following certain rules and traditions. If the ENTJ sees a logical reason why following a tradition will result in something positive and useful, they won’t have a problem with it.
ISTJ
ISTJs often see tradition is an important part of society, and will do their best to uphold those traditions. They enjoy being a part of a community and are extremely hard-working individuals. If the people around them enjoy following certain traditions- especially holidays- the ISTJ will do their best to follow them as well. They are often much more caring than people realize, which is a big reason why they will uphold tradition. They enjoy being around family and loved ones and celebrating those special things with them.
ESTJ
ESTJs may not be the most emotional individuals, but they often value traditions. They see tradition as a way to hold a society together and as something to be valued. They will often do their best to uphold traditions, even if they aren’t necessarily excited about it. ESTJs enjoy being a part of a community, which often means celebrating holidays and other events. They will do their best to participate and will often enjoy being around their loved ones and seeing everyone happy.
ISFJ
Most ISFJs truly love tradition, especially holidays and special events. They enjoy the fact that it brings their loved ones together and gives an excuse to make everyone happy. ISFJs enjoy things that make them feel nostalgic and connected to their past. Traditions will often remind the ISFJ of simpler times, which will make them very happy and excited. Spending time with their loved ones and finding ways to cook for them and make them smile, is one of the best things for ISFJs. They are definitely one of the types that values tradition the most and will uphold them simply because they believe it is right.
ESFJ
ESFJs often love traditions of any kind and will do their best to uphold them. They enjoy being around their family and loved ones, especially during the holidays. ESFJs will often be the people who start decorating for Christmas long before anyone else does. They love being a part in these traditions and will often be the people organizing everything. They enjoy throwing different parties and doing things that celebrate the holiday season. They love the excuse to spend time with family and loved ones, and enjoy the chance to do things for others. Cooking for everyone and buying special gifts for their loves ones, is something that the ESFJ truly loves.
ISTP
ISTPs often do not care much for tradition and may see it as completely pointless. They will often sit back and allow others to celebrate, without making much effort themselves. They understand that many people love tradition, so they usually prefer not to make a fuss about it. Most ISTPs will keep very quiet, but internally mock the people who are obsessed with tradition. They simply do not see the point themselves, but they often would rather not argue with people about it.
ESTP
ESTPs are often rather unique when it comes to their take on traditions. They will often enjoy holidays, simply because they get to buy gifts for others and enjoy delicious food together. Simple spending time with loved ones and having fun, is something that the ESTP really enjoys. Since they enjoy living in the moment and having a good time, many holiday traditions will be seen as enjoyable to an ESTP. When it comes to traditions and rules that force them to do things that they find silly, the ESTP will often not be happy about those traditions.
ISFP
ISFPs may not really enjoy most traditions, but they will keep to themselves most of the time. They would prefer to allow other people to enjoy themselves, without sticking their nose in. ISFPs are soft-spoken individuals, with rich inner emotions. They often keep their thoughts and feelings to themselves, simply because they would prefer not to share themselves with every person they know. ISFPs may not love all traditions, but they will often go along with them for the same of keeping their peace and quiet.
ESFP
ESFPs often enjoy traditions, especially holidays and birthdays. They like having fun and most of these traditions mean throwing parties and enjoying being around loved ones. ESFPs may not like rules and old school traditions, but they do enjoy holidays most of the time. The excuse to be around their loved ones and soak up the atmosphere, is truly enjoyable for ESFPs. They are usually the ones who enjoy throwing the parties and are actually excellent at putting together an amazing event.
