INTP Loyalty: What Being Loyal Means to the INTP

Loyalty is truly an important ideal, for some it is one of the most vital qualities to have. People who value loyalty might have their own idea of what represents being loyal and standing by the people closest to them. Mots people value loyalty to some extent, since this type of trait is seen as innately good. But for some being loyal is not just a nice thing to be, it is one of the most important and necessary parts of someone. Without knowing that a person can be loyal, they likely don’t want to connect with them or be close to this individual. It is important to know how people will view loyalty and what type of meaning it holds for them, especially if you want to understand this person on a deeper level.

INTPs definitely value loyalty, but they don’t necessarily have the same idea of what this means. For the INTP there are certain personal needs and priorities they have in relationships and friendships, which might not be the same as how others view things. They have a unique way of looking at things, which makes them often define loyalty differently than other people do. This can sometimes be confusing for people, since INTPs often define things differently than is expected of them. To understand the INTPs idea of loyalty it is important to understand their values and the way they process things.

What Loyalty Means to the INTP

For the INTP loyalty doesn’t mean simply agreeing with someone no matter what, as this is not honest or sincere. They believe in being upfront and letting someone know if they disagree with them. For the INTP being honest is a sign of trust and loyalty to someone they care for. They believe in letting this person know they will stand by them, but that doesn’t mean they want to lie about their beliefs and if they think this person isn’t making good choices. Loyalty means being honest and trying to always show that they will stand by your side even when you struggle. The INTP knows they will have times when they are struggling and they want their loved ones to support them instead of judge them. Not judging is definitely a big part of being loyal and of showing that they care for someone.

INTPs need to trust someone in order to be completely loyal to them, which can be challenging for them. It takes time for the INTP to really give someone their trust and respect, and it is not something they just give away to anyone. Once they do reach a point where they trust someone, this is when they will strive to remain loyal to them. Which for the INTP means always being there for someone and being completely reliable. They will be there when this person needs help, and even drop their own tasks in order to do so. When it comes to romantic relationships this does mean remaining faithful, and not allowing emotions to prevent them from showing this in any way they can. Where INTPs might not be faithful in a relationship is when they don’t feel like the other person is trustworthy, and they find themselves struggling to remain loyal because they feel like they are being betrayed themselves.

INTPs are complex people, especially when it comes to love and relationships. They believe that being loyal is important when they care for someone, but they struggle between what seems logically loyal and what is emotionally loyal. They go back and forth at times, and might analyze their own way of thinking and question it. INTPs don’t like being stuck in one belief and want to be open to exploring different options or ideas. This causes them to sometimes question themselves just to consider if they are really approaching things the right way. Ultimately they do tend to lean more towards logic, which is what can cause them to appear cold to some people. INTPs care deeply about their loved ones, they just try to show this by being honest and upfront. To the INTP this sense of honesty and respect is really how they show their loyalty and trust in someone else. For the INTPs this is something which needs to built up to though, since loyalty should be earned in their eyes. They need the people close to them to prove that they are worthy of the INTPs loyalty and once this happens their behaviors will start to change.

How They Handle Betrayal

INTPs can sometimes be skeptical people, which means they are on the lookout for betrayal in their lives. They might find themselves analyzing people and their behaviors, constantly wondering if they are going to betray their trust. This can make it challenging for the INTP to really open up to people, but for them it is better to be cautious. They have a tendency to self-protect in hopes of avoiding getting hurt by someone they really care for. When the INTP does feel betrayed by someone, they often go into a reflective mode. They want to analyze the situation and uncover why this occurred, in hopes of preventing it in the future. This can be more stressful than it is good, since the answers may be more emotional than logical. When the INTP is betrayed too many times by someone, they are likely to try and cut them out of their lives but this can be a process for them. When they have already connected with someone it is much more difficult for the INTP to disconnect than people might realize. The INTP might not end these relationships right away, but they will remove their loyalty from the equation and become more focused on themselves and doing what they please.
