ENFJ Humor: Self-Deprecating, Dark & Absurd Humor

When it comes to humor not everyone appreciates the same style, and so this can make for a lot of misunderstandings. While some people might prefer a more traditional humor style, others might enjoy something a bit darker or even absurd. There are so many different things that people can find humorous, and this can sometimes be tied to personality type. Certain types might be more likely to connect with a specific humor style, because of their natural personality and the functions they use. At times this can be challenging for the types with a darker sense of humor, as they don’t always feel free expressing this without receiving judgement.

ENFJs do sometimes have a dark side to their humor, but they have a tendency to keep this to themselves. They are very much susceptible to the people around them, and don’t want to say or do anything which might come across as hurtful. ENFJs care about their loved ones and the feelings of others, and so if they are around people who are more sensitive they won’t want to express their darker sense of humor. ENFJs respond to those who are around them, and will be more open with dark humor when they are around people who find this type of thing amusing. They enjoy being able to connect with people, and can be extremely adaptable to the situation and their surroundings.

ENFJ Dark Humor

ENFJs can certainly find some dark humor funny, but when things go too far it becomes upsetting for them. They don’t like anything which is sincerely hurtful or rooted with the intent of upsetting someone else. ENFJs might find certain things funny which cross lines, but only when they know it isn’t intended to actually be harmful. They care about people and care about hurting their feelings, for the ENFJ it is important to consider this. They want to be sure that their actions are not going to negatively affect someone, and so when a person says something rather dark they can be worried about the intentions. Being someone who is so conscious of the emotions of those around them, makes the ENFJ on higher alert when it comes to the things they say. Some jokes might seem too cruel for them to actually find it funny or amusing. Even if they might find the joke funny on it’s own, the idea that it could hurt someone removes the ENFJs ability to actually connect with the humor of it. They just don’t want to do things which could hurt people or make them seem as if they do not care.

ENFJs do often enjoy dry or sarcastic humor quite a bit, especially if it can be done without being cruel. They don’t mind banter or picking at people lightly, and actually enjoy people who enjoy this type of back and forth. For the ENFJ someone who can express a sarcastic sense of humor which is rooted in wit instead of being cruel, then they really enjoy this. For them it isn’t about being rude, it is lighthearted sarcasm which doesn’t actually dig deep. ENFJs know people rather well and are often more aware of what true insults would affect people. Even if some people are more sensitive to their jokes, their intention is never to be sincerely hurtful. ENFJs just like being playful in this way, and even find flirting with the use of sarcasm to be enjoyable. They do enjoy the type of humor which pokes at certain truths in life in an intelligent and well thought out way. For the ENFJ most things can be seen as somewhat funny, but often this is just to be kind to people around them. Someone who comes up with witty responses which show they have a lot going on inside of their minds, this is really going to be intriguing for the ENFJ. They enjoy the type of humor which makes them feel like they are gaining something from hearing it, and actually building a connection with the person telling the joke in some way.

ENFJ Self-Deprecating

ENFJs don’t mind making a few jokes at their own expense, especially if it will really make people laugh. They naturally respond to their audience and the people around them, and will mold themselves to this. ENFJs have strong Fe, which is very connected to people and to their emotions. This causes them to want to blend into what other people enjoy and make jokes which they will respond to. There is nothing fake or insincere about this, as it is about connecting with people and ENFJs are capable of doing this while still being themselves. They show interest in other people because they are truly and sincerely interested in them. So sometimes this means adjusting their comedic responses, and being a bit self-deprecating can be part of this. They can deliver these jokes in positive ways so that people are aware that they are just being funny, and it isn’t taken all that seriously.

For the ENFJ there are many different types of humor they can respond to but they do enjoy witty and sarcastic humor the most. They will find themselves capable of laughing at many things, mostly for the sake of comforting others. ENFJs just want to create harmony in their environment and enjoy seeing other people happy as often as possible. For them this sometimes means making people laugh, and finding a way to adjust to the humor style of those around them. While ENFJs might find some things funny which are darker, they don’t really draw towards this humor because they don’t want to be hurtful or see anyone upset by this. ENFJs are complex people, capable of seeing many different ways they can respond to those around them in order to put them at ease.
