INTJ Humor: Self-Deprecating, Dark & Absurd Humor

When it comes to humor not everyone appreciates the same style, and so this can make for a lot of misunderstandings. While some people might prefer a more traditional humor style, others might enjoy something a bit darker or even absurd. There are so many different things that people can find humorous, and this can sometimes be tied to personality type. Certain types might be more likely to connect with a specific humor style, because of their natural personality and the functions they use. At times this can be challenging for the types with a darker sense of humor, as they don’t always feel free expressing this without receiving judgement.

INTJs can certainly have a dark sense of humor at times, especially if it is tied into sarcasm. For the INTJ humor can be a great way to express their wit and challenge people a bit. They definitely gravitate more towards a sarcastic sense of humor, or something a bit more biting. Sometimes people can be put off by their sense of humor, since they aren’t really afraid of offending people. For the INTJ, if something seems funny they will go for it and not worry too much about what people think. Of course they are capable of holding this back in certain settings where it really isn’t appropriate, or where it will affect them from progressing in a certain goal. Otherwise INTJs don’t really worry about offending people, especially if they really find the joke amusing.

INTJ Dark Humor

INTJs assess things from a more logical point of view, often burying the emotional response which can cause them to focus more on the joke. When something is just too absurd or ridiculous to be anything other than a joke, they don’t take offense to this. Where other people might feel like these dark jokes go too far, the INTJ is much more objective about it. They don’t allow emotions to prevent them from seeing something as funny, where others might get hurt by it. For the INTJ it seems a bit foolish to get emotional over something which is clearly a joke, and they can detach much easier. They can sometimes struggle around certain personality types, especially ones which are more sensitive to these things. They aren’t afraid of crossing certain lines, whereas some people see this as cruel and uncaring. It isn’t because the INTJ is actually cold or uncaring, it is because they can’t see these comments as anything other than a joke.

INTJs don’t find all dark humor funny simply because it is dark or edgy, they are much more particular than this. THey prefer humor which is pointed and witty, something which clearly took some thought to construct it. If the jokes showcases a good sense of humor, as well as intelligent, the INTJ will find this much more entertaining. They enjoy using their minds and their knowledge as a means of twisting things into something funny. This humor can be dark because it can be truly honest and even push people outside of their own little worlds. Instead of holding back they want to express what they find funny, to the INTJ this is being sincere instead of pretending and hiding. INTJs also aren’t afraid of conflict, especially if it helps to uncover certain truths and important information. Sometimes humor can be a great tool for expressing something they know to be true, even if it can seem a bit dark to those around them. INTJs are good at seeing flaws and mistakes, and sometimes this can turn into a joke or jab at something or someone. For others this can seem like they are crossing the line, but to the INTJ it is part of pushing for the truth and seeing how people respond to this.

INTJ Sarcasm and Self-Deprecation

INTJs are naturally very sarcastic people, which is a big part of their humor. They can sometimes be very dry, and people don’t even realize when they are cracking jokes. In some instances this is on purpose, since the INTJ would prefer it only be noticed by people who are smart enough to catch on. This can also be a great way for the INTJ to see who they connect with better, as they prefer people who can keep up with them. Sarcasm is just natural for the INTJ, and is something which can certainly be used to be funny or entertain. Other times the INTJ is simply sarcastic as a means of expressing their frustrations and how annoying they often find the world around them. Sarcasm can be both humorous and some sort of self-expression for the INTJ, and so it is definitely something which they commonly use. They are naturally witty people, and they enjoy being around people who can keep up with this and who appreciate this side of them. People who cannot seem to follow their jokes can be rather draining for the INTJ after a while. They certainly know when to be serious and aren’t like to be cracking jokes constantly, but INTJs really do appreciate a good sense of humor. They prefer people who can connect with this side of them, as well as their more serious side.

INTJs will occasionally make self-deprecating jokes, but only when it is clearly a joke. Most of the time anything which is too self-deprecating just feels like a way to express negative emotions towards themselves, without it being said outright. For the INTJ this can actually get rather annoying, especially with people who won’t accept a sincere compliment and have to always be self-deprecating about things. For the INTJ this becomes tiresome and feels like someone who is incapable of just being honest with themselves and others. Occasional jokes are fine to them, but only when it is clear that the comment is being made purely because it will be humorous. Most of the time they prefer to avoid self-deprecation, and might even prefer over the top confident humor instead.
