Enneagram Type 4 Female: The Enneagram Type Four Woman

The Enneagram is a categorization of personality types based on how people perceive and respond to the world and information they gather, as well their own emotions. This describes 9 different enneagram or personality types, and each one possesses certain core beliefs which are what drives them. These beliefs drive each type and also can be limiting at times, which is why understanding them is so important. It isn’t meant to lock people into those weaknesses or limitations, instead it is meant to help them improve and find ways to maintain a sense of healthy balance in their lives. It also helps to gain a deeper understanding of what motivates the people around you, and helps to comprehend why they contradict themselves at times. Knowing the enneagram gives a clearer sense of these inner motivations and even fears.

Understanding each type is important but it can also be important to understanding the variations. For certain types it might cause them to respond differently to the world being a type 4 woman, and how they are perceived by others because of this. They value being able to find their sense of identity, as well as a deep inner purpose. Understanding how this correlates with being a female type 4, can help to gain a deeper comprehension of how they respond to the world as well as how they can better manage their own emotions.

Type 4- The Individualist

The type 4 personality tends to see themselves as different from others, wanting to develop a strong sense of identity. The idea of being normal or just like everyone else, is often seen as a bad thing to them. They want to stand apart, and can become self-conscious about this desire. They can be fearful of vulnerability, since they don’t want to be judged or seen as ordinary by others. Fours care about self-expression and being able to find beautiful ways to show the world who they are and what makes them unique. They can often struggle with the idea that no one can ever truly understand them, always feeling far too different or strange to be loved the way they want to be. This causes them to distance themselves from people at times, especially when they are feeling a constant disconnect from the world around them. While there are certain aspects which can cause them to be unhealthy, the healthy four is actually great at personal self-awareness. They can see their strengths and flaws, but this helps them to work on those problem areas and not feel so alienated because of it.

The Type 4 Woman Values

The type 4 woman bases their choices off of feelings and inner emotions, rather than trying to focus on what is more practical. They have a strong inner sense of who they are, and this is truly important to them. Being connected to their feelings and being free to express them, is a big part of how fours respond to the world around them. They are often highly artistic people, wanting to find some sort of creative means of expressing themselves and their individuality. They work hard to understand themselves and what makes them unique, and so they want to be sure this is outwardly observed most of the time. For the people in their lives the 4 woman want to be seen as special, as someone who stands apart from others. The idea of being ordinary or insignificant, is truly a horrible feeling for them. They are not afraid of standing out, they simply don’t want to be someone who is unable to express their true selves. Being someone who is a bit quirky or even strange to others, is not something which the 4 woman fears or avoids. Authenticity is the core value of the type 4 woman, as they want to be someone who is original and true to themselves. They care about expressing who they are to others, especially those closest to them.

The Type 4 Woman Struggles

For the type 4 woman it is vital that they feel like their emotions are being understood, especially when it comes to romantic entanglements. It can be challenging for them to feel truly understood and this can be upsetting for the 4 woman. They start to feel like they can’t ever find someone who will appreciate or understand them and their complex inner emotions. While they want to be able to give themselves fully to the people they love, it can be a challenge for them to fully open up at times. They become fearful that they are opening themselves up to being hurt, since no one seems to truly understand them on a deeper level. They care about being true to themselves as well, and many relationships can make them feel as if they cannot fully do this.

The type 4 woman can be withdrawn at times, going from being social and compassionate to needing a lot of time to themselves. They can go into a more melancholic state, which isn’t always something other people can fully understand. This is when they just need time to reflect, or sometimes if they are feeling a bit disillusioned with the outside world. During this time they can seem to be caught up inside of their own thoughts and feelings, and might struggle to really connect with those around them. This is something which can be a struggle, since people might not fully understand this about them or why they need this time to themselves. Under times of extreme stress the type 4 can be more likely to go into a more depressive state of mind, and of course this can be a challenge for them. They don’t always understand why this happens and can sometimes feel judged by others because of it.
