ENFP Self-Awareness: The ENFP Journey to Self-Discovery

Self-awareness is not always an easy thing to obtain, for some it seems harder than for others. Self-awareness means digging deep into your own emotions and inner thoughts, and searching to understand what is going on underneath the outer appearance. Sometimes this leads to painful memories, and recognizing certain flaws which we don’t always want to accept. Self-discovery can be a challenging journey, sometimes it is painful and other times it is very rewarding. Ultimately the struggles we endure trying to understand and accept our positive and negative traits, can be an amazing way to grow and become the best version of ourselves possible. The more people lack self-awareness, the easier it is to hurt those around us without meaning to, which is why it is so important.

For the ENFP being self-aware feels like an important thing, since they are deeply connected with their own emotions. ENFPs are introspective people who spend a lot of time inside their own minds. Since they are outgoing and often charismatic people, most people don’t realize that they are also very introspective. They spend a lot of time inside of their rich inner thoughts, and enjoy being able to analyze and understand these thoughts and feelings better. For the ENFP being able to analyze and understand their own motives is important, since they have strong inner morals which they don’t want to deviate from.

ENFP Introspection

Stereotypes can peg extroverts are not being very self-aware or introspective, but this is very far from true. ENFPs are actually very introspective people, with rich inner minds and inner emotions. They have so much going on inside of their thoughts that it can be overwhelming at times. ENFPs have deep imaginations, and they actually do enjoy analyzing information and searching for more understanding. ENFPs enjoy understanding facts as well, and like to expand their knowledge. They are curious people by nature, who dislike feeling stagnant or like they aren’t open to experiencing new things. For the ENFP understanding themselves better is important, and something they are naturally drawn to. They have complex and powerful inner emotions, and they cannot simply ignore these feelings. For the ENFP focusing on their feelings is part of understanding themselves and understanding their own sense of morals. They work hard to develop this strong sense of right and wrong, not wanting to betray this or deviate from it. For the ENFP having a moral standard they can believe in and follow is an important part of who they are.

ENFPs spend a lot of time inside of their thoughts, and because of this they do work to understand themselves better. ENFPs are often very sure of what they want and can be rather confident people as they mature. When they set a goal and have something they are sure of, this is highly unlikely to change. They might have strong emotions which can make them have mood swings, but the ENFP has reasonings behind this even if other people don’t understand it completely. They do want to find tools and ways to connect with their inner voice, so that they can get a stronger sense of self-awareness. ENFPs are capable of recognizing and accepting certain flaws, but learning to notice all of them can be challenging. ENFPs don’t like anything which causes serious stress or discord, and so they might avoid certain facts about themselves or others. This is where they can struggle with self-awareness, since ENFPs really don’t like dwelling on the negative for long periods of time. This doesn’t mean they cannot be internally hard on themselves as well, especially when they do decide to focus on things they feel they can improve. But being hard on themselves is often part of the problem, as they decide to swift focus when they start to feel bad about themselves.

How to Improve

The biggest thing for the ENFP is learning to accept their flaws without feeling bad about them. They need to realize that it is okay to have things which need to be changed or worked on, and that they don’t need to feel guilty about this. Learning about themselves and their good and bad traits, does not require them to dwell on all those negative emotions. For the ENFP researching is actually a helpful tool, as they enjoy learning and often reading. ENFPs are good at picking up on new information and so not all introspection has to be inside of their own minds. Sometimes doing research helps them to expand and actually focus on different perspectives than their own. Studying their functions and seeing how they work together can be useful and rewarding for the ENFP. ENFPs has strong values which certainly help them to become more self-aware, since they are sure of their own goals and belief system. Where they struggle is focusing on the less positive things, and so they sometimes need to take a step back and not allowing themselves to feel overwhelmed by this.

ENFPs are highly capable of learning and growing, as they don’t like being stagnant. Being free to expand and grow is something which makes the ENFP feel excited about the future. This is something which can really help them gain a deeper sense of self-awareness, and to give them room to grow and learn about who they are and what their own motives can be. ENFPs will feel more rewarded by being able to understand themselves better. The more they search to understand themselves the more they become comfortable accepting the less positive behaviors they exhibit, as they are aware that they can grow and change.
