Here’s How You Handle Living in the Country, Based on Your Personality Type

For some people the lifestyle of living in the country can be rewarding and peaceful, to others it is stifling and miserable. It all depends on what you are looking for in life, but there are pros and cons to country living based on each personality type. Here is how you handle country living, and what the benefits and drawbacks are for you based on your personality type.

INFJs often enjoy certain aspects of a country lifestyle, the biggest benefit is the opportunity for alone time. There is a sense of peace in the country and with so much space you can often get away from everyone. Being able to really escape being around others is definitely something the INFJ will enjoy. They often like being able to connect with nature and cherish the freedom to just enjoy their own inner minds. Where INFJs can struggle is the small town mentality that some places might have, and this might make them feel different from everyone around them. For the INFJ a country setting can often be more beneficial later in life, when they have their own family to join them.

ENFJs often don’t mind the country lifestyle, especially if they have loved ones to connect with. ENFJs are great at adapting to pretty much any environment, as long as they can take care of everyone around them. They will do their best to make a good home and fit in with their surroundings. ENFJs can find ways to keep everyone entertained and will often take on new chores or hobbies living in the country. They might even benefit from creating their own small business, in order to become a valued member of the community.

For the INFP the country lifestyle can be a bit challenging, and possibly even boring. They often dislike feeling stagnant and sometimes living in the country can cause them to feel overly stifled. Sometimes the INFP can feel like they simply aren’t exposed to enough people in the country so that they can meet the ones who understand and appreciate them. While INFPs will often enjoy being able to get the alone time they need, they can feel misunderstood by a lot of people around them. If the INFP does meet people who they connected with then the country lifestyle has the benefits of peace and quiet for them.

For the ENFP living in the country can be stifling, especially since they become bored so easily. Not having enough options and entertainment can be a bit difficult for the ENFP to withstand. While they will enjoy certain experiences in the country, they need to be able to branch out or else they feel trapped. ENFPs can sometimes be happy living in the country if the city is very close by, so that they have plenty of opportunities right around them. If they are stuck in a very small town without many chances to expand and grow, the ENFP will become quickly drained by this.

INTJs can often enjoy the peace and quiet that they gain from living in the country or a small town. Being able to have plenty of time to themselves without noise and interruptions is something the INTJ will definitely feel is valuable. For the INTJ the thing that is often underwhelming about the country is that they might not have enough options. They want to be able to experience things and want plenty of opportunities to learn and grow. INTJs might enjoy living in the country or a smaller town, if they have a city close by with plenty of opportunities to expand and dive into something intellectually stimulating.

ENTJs often like having plenty of opportunities for growth and expansion, and can sometimes feel stifled in the country. If the ENTJ has chances to learn and improve their futures, then they will often be happy wherever they are. They might enjoy travelling and being able to experience the world before settling down somewhere. When the ENTJ does settle they might enjoy the peace and quiet of the country. Being close to cities but having the space to get away and live on their own terms, might be beneficial for them.

INTPs can often feel stifled and bored when they are in the country, feeling like they don’t have enough chances to expand. INTPs want to constantly be learning and experiencing new things, without feeling trapped or held back. Sometimes the country can leave them feeling a bit stagnant and like they don’t have enough opportunities in front of them. INTPs like their options open, which is why the country lifestyle can sometimes feel a bit boring for them. They also might feel misunderstood by many of the people around, feeling like people are too much in one another’s business.

ENTPs can often feel stifled when they are living in the country, without much room for change. They often do better in cities because they have so many options available to them. ENTPs really hate stagnancy and want to feel free to expand and branch out. When the ENTP is in the country they might become bored rather quickly of their lifestyle, wanting to create new things to entertain themselves. The ENTPs imply needs to be able to live their life on their own terms, without constantly feeling like people are invading their privacy.

ISTJs can often settle into a place as long as their loved ones are with them. They might enjoy the country lifestyle since it provides them with plenty of time to themselves. They can often find peace and quiet in the calm of the country, and this is often beneficial for the ISTJ. The ISTJ might even enjoy settling down in the country, feeling like this is a more substantial place to build a family. For them it is more important to adapt to their surroundings and find a way to take care of their loved ones.

ESTJs can often enjoy living in the country, especially if they grew up there. They are often connected to their past and feel happiest in places that make them comfortable. The idea of settling down in the country with their family might not be a bad idea for the ESTJ. As long as they are in a place where they can create a life and future for themselves and their families, the ESTJ will be happy with this. They do want to have room for growth and advancement, but they don’t mind settling down in one place.

ISFJs often don’t mind living in the country, especially if they grew up there. They don’t like much change and might be happiest in the place they are used to. ISFJs enjoy being able to settle down with their families, and often enjoy the peace of the country. Having some quiet and time to themselves is often truly enjoyable for the ISFJ. They hate feeling like they are being pushed into things, and sometimes the idea of living in the city can feel overwhelming if they aren’t used to this.

ESFJs are mainly focused on their loved ones and will do whatever they believe will make them happiest. They can enjoy the country lifestyle if this means building a family and a comfortable home for those around them. ESFJs enjoy being able to settle down with their family, and sometimes the idea of living in the country seems like the most stable environment for this. Some ESFJs might be more at ease in the city though, especially if this is where they were raised and what they are used to.

ISTPs can often feel stagnant if they are in the same place for too long, so living in the country might not be ideal at first. They often enjoy being able to travel and experience new places before they feel comfortable with the idea of settling down. The ISTP might be bored in the country when they are younger, but as they get older it might appear more ideal. They enjoy the peace and quiet and having plenty of space to themselves to figure out their own desires and goals.

For the ESTP living in the country can feel a bit stifling after a while. They need to have plenty of room to grow and need to be able to experience adventure once in a while. When the ESTP lives in the country or a small town it can cause them to feel a bit trapped. They want to be able to dive into something new without having to travel hours to actually experience something. For the ESTP country living is often a bit challenging and leaves them feeling bored.

ISFPs might enjoy the peace and quiet that living in the country can provide for them. They also like the chance to connect with nature and live in a more spiritual manner. For the ISFP country living might actually be enjoyable, and they can often find new ways to entertain themselves. They will however feel stifled if they aren’t around enough people who understand and appreciate their unique hearts.

ESFPs can have a hard time living in the country, since they can become bored easily. They need to be able to try new things constantly, and want to seek out adventure in their lives. When the ESFP lives in the country it can leave them feeling limited, like they don’t have enough options. They want to live their lives with excitement, and for the ESFP being in the same small place can feel a bit stagnant.
