Here’s How You Handle Gender Stereotypes, Based on Your Personality Type

It’s a sensitive topic, especially as of recently- but it is an important topic nonetheless. Each type has their own response to the stereotypical gender roles placed one them. While this topic could fill a notebook for each personality type, and is also something that is more fit to an individual- there are still some affects that can be discussed based on type. Here is how you handle gender roles, based on your personality type.

INFJ

INFJs can definitely struggle with the idea of fitting into gender roles, since they prefer to focus on being themselves in whatever way they please. While they do possess a sense of what people will expect of them, INFJs often struggle to fit into this mold. They would much rather keep to themselves in most situations and only share parts of themselves with people who they trust. The male INFJ can struggle with fitting into other people’s expectations, since they often have a great amount of emotional maturity, which isn’t the stereotypical male quality. While INFJs do often know how they can best fit into their respective roles, they rarely desire to do so for the sake of everyone else.

ENFJ

ENFJs are often well aware of gender roles in society and how to best fit into them. They are naturally skilled at perceiving the best way to fit in, but they don’t enjoy haven’t to hold back who they are. If the ENFJ is stifled in a situation where they have to behave a certain way for their loved ones, then they will know how to fit into a certain role. For ENFJs it can be easy to get in touch with their feminine or masculine side, but they don’t enjoy doing this just for the sake of maintaining an image. After a while this can certainly bother the ENFJ, especially the male ENFJ who is more aware of the emotions of others than is deemed appropriate for most men.

INFP

INFPs really don’t subscribe to this idea of fitting into social roles, especially when it comes to gender roles. While they might be in touch with their feminine or masculine side in the typical manner befitting them, they don’t do this for the sake of others. INFPs want to be themselves without feeling like others are stifling or controlling them. Female INFPs are often feminine, but they also have a somewhat goofy or dorky side that might surprise people. The male INFP can struggle to fit into their gender stereotypes, since they are very in touch with their emotions and allow their feelings to guide them. For both male and female INFPs it is easy for them to get in touch with both masculine and feminine qualities, they simply want to be themselves without constant judgment.

ENFP

ENFPs are charismatic people who are naturally aware of how to draw others in. They do often fit into certain ideas of what their gender should be based on masculine or feminine behaviors, but they don’t do this simply to fit in. ENFP females are often rather feminine, but they also have some tomboyish qualities which make them uniquely quirky. ENFPs males can struggle when they are younger since they are definitely more in touch with their emotions than the stereotype of males, but they often overcome this as they get older and become more comfortable and confident in their own skin.

INTJ

INTJs rarely fall into gender stereotypes, since they do things their own way completely. While INTJs females can often be rather feminine, they don’t fall into stereotypes because of their natural inclination towards logic. While many females are typically drawn to emotions, the INTJ female favors logic and is not seen as very emotional at all. INTJs males also don’t have a strong desire to puff up their chest and challenge others, which is why they don’t often fit into male stereotypes. INTJs can often appear neutral in this way, since they prefer to focus on logic and information and don’t really care much for fitting into roles.

ENTJ

ENTJs have their own way of approaching life which makes them avoid stereotypes most of the time. The ENTJ male does often fit into most ideas of what a typical male should be though, since they are hardworking and even aggressive. They are strong-willed which is often how society pictures the typical male behavior. ENTJs females can be seen as too aggressive though, and rarely fit into gender roles and stereotypes. The ENTJ female may possess feminine qualities, but she also seems to be motivated and logical, which can surprise others.

INTP

INTPs rarely fit into gender stereotypes at all, and have a unique way of approaching life. While INTPs often possess both feminine and masculine qualities, they can appear more neutral in a way. They are focused on logic and reason, and are not naturally emotional people. INTPs females are much more interested in learning and analyzing than the stereotype of the emotional female. While INTPs males fit into this idea of men approaching things from a logical point of view, they don’t subscribe to certain typical behaviors and are not interested in trying to show off for others.

ENTP

ENTPs rarely feel the need to adhere to any sort of gender stereotypes of societal norms. They are strongly independent people who believe in doing what they want without being held back by others. ENTPs are often aware of how to behave in order to fit into certain roles, but they only do this out of curiosity. ENTPs makes are logical and straightforward, they are also outgoing and charismatic, which makes it rather easy for them to fit into gender stereotypes. ENTPs females are logical people, which can make them appear less like the typical female personality, but they do have feminine qualities and a charming personality which helps them fit in when they want to.

ISTJ

ISTJs are often well aware of what is deemed socially appropriate, and can often fit into these roles easily. ISTJs follow what they know from their past and will be capable of fitting into society, since they prefer not to make a fuss. ISTJs males are hardworking and practical people, which certainly makes them fit into gender stereotypes naturally. The ISTJ female can appear a bit colder than typical females, but they are also practical and considerate towards their loved ones. While ISTJs often fit into gender stereotypes with ease, this isn’t something they actively try to do.

ESTJ

ESTJs do strive to fit into their community, so fitting into certain stereotypes is something that might be important to them. They don’t want to pretend, but they don’t mind putting in extra effort to avoid putting people off. Male ESTJs are practical and driven people, which definitely fits into the gender stereotypes of men, and makes it easy for them to fit in naturally. ESTJs females can be a bit different, since they are motivated and practical without focusing much on emotions. This lack of focus on their feelings can leave the ESTJ female appearing a bit different from the stereotype of women. In truth ESTJ women will continue to be themselves and will attempt to push through these gender roles placed on them.

ISFJ

ISFJs can often find it easy to fit in, and will naturally adhere to most gender roles. ISFJ women are compassionate and nurturing, which makes them fit well into the stereotype of women. They are naturally this way without having to pretend, and find it easier to focus on emotions rather than logic. ISFJs males are definitely more compassionate than the gender stereotype of men, but they also are polite and reserved which helps them fit in pretty much anywhere without much of a struggle.

ESFJ

ESFJs often fit in to societal norms with ease, and have a natural awareness of what is deemed appropriate for them. They can definitely perceive what people expect of them and strive to fit into their community in some ways. ESFJ females often find it easy to fit into gender roles, since they are compassionate and nurturing people. They are focused on caring for others and value emotions more than logical thinking. For ESFJs males it can be a bit more challenging, since they are focused on caring for others- but at the same time the ESFJ male often enjoys things like sports and the stereotypical male hobbies.

ISTP

ISTPs don’t care much for gender stereotypes and would much rather focus on being themselves. While they don’t care to fit into certain roles, the ISTP male natural fits into the stereotypical male personality. They are aloof, independent and focused on logic and reason- which makes the ISTP male fit in rather easily. ISTPs females can struggle though, since they are more interested in logic than they are emotions, and might not be the most nurturing people. They rarely are bothered by this though, and find themselves charming people with their natural wit and cool demeanor.

ESTP

ESTPs aren’t really interested in fitting into a role, and would prefer to do their own thing. They live in the moment and find themselves drawn to things that inspire them. ESTPs can often possess both feminine and masculine qualities, and enjoy being able to explore different options in life. The ESTP male is considerate, but he is also adventurous and logical. While the ESTP female is drawn to facts, but can also be very nurturing. This combination makes the ESTP somehow fit into gender roles, but at the same time allows them to toe the line.

ISFP

ISFPs don’t really care much for fitting into certain roles, and would rather follow their heart. ISFPs females do often possess very feminine qualities though, and might find that they fit into rather easily. The ISFP male can struggle when it comes to gender roles, since they are very focused on their inner emotions and morals. For the ISFP it is more important to be themselves than to adhere to what society tells them they should be.

ESFP

ESFPs can often fit into gender roles naturally, since they are more focused on living in the moment and living exciting lives. ESFPs females are often very feminine, but they are also fun and sometimes flighty. The ESFP male is charismatic which helps them draw in possible suitors with ease. ESFPs are often aware of how others perceive them, and are skilled at charming the people around them. They have a way with presenting themselves how they want, which helps them hide qualities that might not fit into gender stereotypes.
