Here’s How Well You Receive Advice, Based on Your Personality Type

While some might be good at giving advice, not everyone is capable of receiving it. Here is how well you can receive advice from others, based on your personality type.

INFJ

INFJs actually don’t mind receiving advice as long as it isn’t given in a condescending manner. They often appreciate that someone wants to help them, and will enjoy the consideration. While the INFJ might not use this advice if it doesn’t align with their intuition or morals, that doesn’t mean they will react harshly to it. INFJs can tell the difference between sincere advice, and simply someone being judgmental and attempting to control them. If it is someone being condescending they will become frustrated and likely need to get away from this person.

ENFJ

ENFJs don’t mind receiving advice from people who simply want to help them. They will often listen to what they have to say, but that doesn’t mean they will actually use the information. For ENFJs it is often important to follow their own path, and to use their intuition to make important choices. They don’t find themselves too proud to listen to what others have to share with them, they just ultimately want to follow what they believe is right and what is best for themselves and their loved ones.

INFP

INFPs can be stubborn at times, especially when it comes to their internal set of morals. If someone attempts to challenge this with their advice, the INFP will become defensive and frustrated. Most of the time they simply want someone to listen to them and show compassion, and don’t want to receive heaps of advice. INFPs are independent people who want to take their own path in life. They prefer to receive advice that they have asked for and can become frustrated when it is unsolicited.

ENFP

ENFPs are independent people, which can make them a bit stubborn at times. If someone attempts to give the ENFP advice, sometimes it can cause them to become defensive. If they feel like that individual is being condescending or isn’t being sincere, they will become annoyed. They especially don’t want to receive advice on subjects they already know plenty about. For ENFPs advice is something they only want to receive when they are requested it from someone they trust and rely on.

INTJ

INTJs aren’t really ones to ask for advice from others and would rather research and observe a situation themselves. INTJs can be somewhat stubborn when they know something to be true, and dislike when another persona attempts to provide advice in these situations. They are independent people who rarely request advice, but only want to receive it when they are actually asked for it. For INTJs it is best to let them make their own choices and come to their own conclusions, without trying to give them assistance.

ENTJ

ENTJs aren’t really fans of receiving advice unless they have actually asked for it. For ENTJs it is important to do things on their own, and research their tasks as much as possible. They don’t enjoy others trying to condescend to them by giving them unsolicited advice. ENTJs will accept advice from someone experienced and knowledgeable in their field however, especially if they look up to this individual. For the ENTJ it is frustrated when others attempt to make demands on them, since they often know the path they want to take.

INTP

INTPs often don’t enjoy receiving advice unless they have actually asked for it. They will often find people in their lives they can trust, and will rely on their opinions and advice in certain situations. Of course the INTP wants to request this, and doesn’t enjoy when someone gives them advice without actually being asked. They need to take time to research and analyze information themselves, before actually coming to a conclusion. Ultimately INTPs do enjoy receiving as much information as possible, so that they can objectively analyze everything.

ENTP

ENTPs don’t mind receiving advice, but they can become frustrated when people expect them to take it. They enjoy listening to the opinions of others, and also enjoy being able to debate with them. However the ENTP isn’t simply going to take someone’s advice just because they give it freely. ENTPs want to make their own choices in life, but they will certainly use as much information as they can before moving forward with something.

ISTJ

ISTJs are sometimes stubborn people, who have their own beliefs and morals. They don’t mind receiving advice from the people they trust and respect, and will likely listen to what they have to say. ISTJs are willing to take on as much information and research as they need to in order to accomplish their goals. For the ISTJ it is important to be sure that the information they are receiving is based on facts and evidence. They don’t enjoy people simply sharing their opinions and telling the ISTJ what they should be doing.

ESTJ

ESTJs are rather stubborn people which means they don’t often receive advice that well. They prefer to have a sense of control in their lives and want to make their choices on their own. When people attempt to give them advice in a condescending way, the ESTJ can become annoyed and even angry. They only accept advice from people they trust completely, and only when they actually feel like they need that persons help in order to move forward.

ISFJ

ISFJs can definitely receive advice from people they trust and look up to. If someone is attempting to help them out of a sticky situation, the ISFJ will listen to what they have to say. They won’t always use this information, especially if they feel it goes against their beliefs. But the ISFJ will definitely listen and try not to become frustrated or annoyed by the person giving the advice. They often have people they trust and rely on for certain things, and will look to them when they need help.

ESFJ

ESFJs don’t mind receiving advice from people they trust and care for deeply. If a complete stranger tries to give the ESFJ condescending advice, they will become extremely annoyed by this. They don’t enjoy people trying to treat them like they are better than the ESFJ, and will definitely shove their words aside. ESFJs are caring people who work hard to tend to the needs of their loved ones, they simply don’t enjoy having others attempt to tell them how to do this.

ISTP

ISTPs rarely take advice from others and prefer to get things done themselves. ISTPs have a strong sense of independence and dislike when others attempt to control them. When they truly need help or advice the ISTP will seek it out themselves, and don’t expect people to try and force things onto them. They often do things in the present moment, using their own sense of instincts and analysis.

ESTP

ESTPs can be somewhat stubborn about what they believe in and might have a hard time receiving advice from others. When the ESTP actually wants help they will often request it from the ones they trust. They don’t enjoy simply receiving advice from people who believe that the ESTP is in need. They dislike when others condescend to them, and have a strong sense of independence.

ISFP

ISFPs don’t mind receiving advice from the people they trust and will often look to them for guidance. ISFPs simply become frustrated by people who attempt to control them and tell them what they should be doing with their life. For them it is important to go to people they trust for advice, and everyone else they prefer to keep their distance when it comes to counsel.

ESFP

ESFPs can definitely receive advice from the people they trust and care for. While ESFPs don’t become upset when they are given advice, they won’t always follow it. They can have a hard time recalling this information when the time comes to actually use it, since they live so much in the moment. ESFPs often follow their own feelings in the present moment, which leads to them often ignoring any previous advice they were given.
